Wow, is that as small as I think it is? A bit pricy, but still cheaper than 5GB worth of USB2.0 flash drives by far. I wonder what the non-operation shock specifications are like on that thing. Hmm. Large enough capacity to fit an entire OS installation on there too, and more besides.

I found this on seagate press release....

Seagate USB 2.0 Pocket Hard Drive
The new Seagate USB 2.0 Pocket Hard Drive is the biggest small hard drive on the planet. Safely encased in its sleek palm-sized shell, it's as convenient as a USB thumb drive yet offers an incredible 5GB of storage for transporting or quickly backing up a huge amount of data, pictures, audio or video files.

The Seagate Pocket Hard Drive has a stylish, round design less than three inches in diameter. Its round shape with retractable USB cable is designed to move in and out of a pocket easily, and its rubberized feet keep it still on the desktop when it's not in transit. With its robust design and high shock tolerance it enables mobility and delivers high performance, low power consumption and reliability. The Seagate Pocket Hard Drive also includes toolkit software for data security and easy content management, letting users password protect their hard drive.

Not really what i expected :frown:

I think it's usb powered. I wish someone who owned one would chime in but they are still relatively new. My concern is if it's going to survive the same type of abuse my usb flash drive does.

Get a 4GB Creative USB2.0 Muvo2 mp3 player for $150 instead, can be used as USB 2.0 disk as well, no driver needed.

yes, but the rio carbon would work better if you actually wanted a portable HD... i don't believe it needs drivers. and if it does, the muvo as somone already state would be best.

Hopefully this is the case. My Rio Karma still needs drivers.

Yea. It's be nice if you could take the drive out and use it as a CF card in pda or cameras.

I got my purchasing guy to get one of these the first day they were for sale at Newegg...

It's alot bigger than it looks on the picture... the usb connector is a mini one.

It is powered from the usb slot... the center glows blue when in use.

It's about 3 inches diameter.

It works pretty good. I didn't have to load any drivers for WinXp or 2k. Works under Linux too.

Slower on file transfers compared to flash drives, but it's still pretty fast, about 4-6MB/Sec.

It's too big to hang around your neck like a flash drive (for maybe a cadillac emblem look).

I can't purchase MP3 players at work.... and 4GB flash drive are still expensive.

The only concern I have is the cable. It rolls inside the housing and doesn't look too strong.

I've been hanging it off servers just by the usb cable and the cable bends heavily.

I like it.
