What?

The OPs post is a NS drive,: The Seagate Barracuda ES enterprise hard drive.
Main feature is this: Highest reliability rating for 24 x 7 operation

They are NOT the same thing as the other seagate drives that have been mentioned before.

The egg don't got this drive as of this post.

The link I posted at the beginning is for a 5yr full warranty and this ST3500630NS is an ES model. Also, if it is priced at 99$ check and make sure its not a re-certified (not that they are bad, but make sure what you are buying)

No, ATers just don't understand why we should pay more for a questionably better drive. I'm pretty sure I speak for everyone here that Seagate drives are 'reliable enough'

I've upgraded my array through many generations of drives, starting at 120GBx4 and now at 750GBx7, all run 24x7 in a well cooled case, and have never had a failure.

The only dead Seagate's I've pulled have been from Dell's and HP's, and I lean toward their cooling architecture as the culprit.

Isn't this a better (although not even necessarily a "hot") deal from Newegg: 32MB cache NS version for $139 (read the reviews, though) vs the 16MB cache NS version for $139 listed in the topic title?

Elixir: 'The egg' -- for the SAME PRICE & free ship -- offers the 32MB-cache ES.2 500GB NS drive (ST3500320NS)... i.e. a drive of same capacity but double the buffer and 25% faster transfer times than the OP's 16MB ES 500GB NS drive (ST3500630NS...see my post above). jjmIII posted a link to Newegg's ES.2-NS offering on 03/15/2008 12:10 PM ("Is this a good deal?")

The Barracuda ES.2 NS version is also quieter at max performance (as per manufacturer)

ACOUSTICS (bels)
fluid bearing (typ/max-quiet/max-perf) _2.5/2.9/3.0

vs Barracuda ES NS

ACOUSTICS (bels)
fluid bearing (typ/max-perf) ___________2.3/3.5

As far as hot deals with the drive you mention, ST3500320NS, Memory labs have it for $125

I just made this post b/c if you are looking to Raid with the ST3500630NS they (5yr warranty) have become hard to find. 139$ is cheaper for me to upgrade with than 2 ST3500320NS, even at 125$ a piece.

Good post btw

Cheers
