comparison to my 1.5TB Seagate

I expected better results .....

That is not bad to me, even slightly faster than WD 640gb black drive with 32M cache.
How many years warranty for this drive? I could not find any warranty information from newegg and seagate. You can check warranty of your drive here.

Warranty is 3 years. I expected better results because 1.5TB HDD use 375GB platters and this 7200.12 use single 500GB platter and 1.5TB is still faster.

Wow, it isn't my HDD making the noise, it's the CPU fan. I ran it externally and it was fine. Then I disconnected all the case fans and there was still noise. Finally, I put my hear to the cpu and there it was, the noise. I feel so dumb.

thanks. this model number yea? ST3500410AS here:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...&Tpk=seagate%207200.12

do you guys think the 32mb cache is gonna hinder performance much? I bet having a single platter effects performance much more than the 32mb cache, but curious as to why seagate opted NOT to go 32mb and stay w/ 16mb?

also, why dont hdd manufacturers advertise how many platters like they do 8/16/32mb cache if that effects performance more?:/ thanks in advance if anyone can answer. cheers.

I think the 32M cache will not impove the performance much, since WD6401aals(dual chip 32M cache) is just slightly faster than WD6400aaks(single chip, 16M cache) link. The Seagate 1TB 7200.12 drive is coming out. It has 32M cache.

Don't care about little 500 GB drives , but this means upcoming 2 platter 1 TB, 3 platter 1.5 TB, & most importantly, 4 platter 2 TB HDDs...i hope

Reminds me of the 320GB single platter 7200.10....single platter and @ 10% faster than the multi platter hdds in the same line.
The wife has 2 in raid0...tis quick!

my 2 are working fine. Transfer files, vm's, holding os.
sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith...

for me 1 platter vs 2 was preferred. For size I go with 1TB/1.5TB
I'm trying to hold off for the 2 platter 1TB...prefer something more reliable than reviews on the 1.5;s
