Hit the Langhorne Oxford Valley PA location because the web page said it was on stock.

Unusually enough, guy in comp department was very helpful.

Not on shelf. He checks around, turns out there are 5 of them on the truck that just arrived that is sitting out back.

He checks manifest to make sure they're on there, but can't access the box it's in.

Shelf tag reads the correct price, he was startled himself.

Took me up front, I basically bought 2 drives through the website with the price adjusted locally for in store pickup.

Website and system both still read 99.99, but no problem getting 49.99 with the shelf tag in hand.

Now for those of you rolling your eyes "that doesn't help me for squat", while he was checking if they did in fact have any, he said "whoa this deal will be on for a while, there are 900 of them in the warehouse."

Now that distribution center I'm sure serves a large area, but 900 drives in the mid atlantic area should keep a lot of AT geeks happy.

And the shelf tag did in fact read clearance.

KF
I snickered as I saw the Sonata sitting behind the desk marked down to 99 AR. Guy said they don't sell at all, as I fondly thought of my Staples $77 Sonata.

Just checked my local BB here in Arizona, shelf price showed $99. I took it up to the register anyways.. Rang up $99. I just left the store unhappy. I wonder if it was a pricing mistake?

They had just one on the shelf. I looked "above" at the "top shelf stocking area" and there were a bunch, though.

Return it if you can't get them to credit you back the price difference. $99 is too much to pay for 80GB. There are deals to be had left and right. That is why you read the forum, eh?

I guess I wasn't clear in my post. I saw that it rang up $99 and told the guy "No thanks!" I didn't buy it.

I just gave BB in Fargo, ND a call and the guy said they're getting 2 in tonight and he said he'll put my name on one of them, w00t. If they're gone where you are, give them a call and have them try and hold one for you. Hopefully they're this nice everywhere.

FYI - I went to the Minnetonka, MN Best Buy store and they had plenty in stock - but they all rang up @ $99.99 with $40 MIR. No thanks.

I'm east coast, northeast of Philly. Might be regional, based on the area covered by specific distribution centers or some such.

*shrug*

I could have bought all 5 of the ones on the truck, but my domestic tranquility would have suffered, even if I passed on 3 at cost.

I went to the Minnetonka store tonight and had the same problem. We looked it up at the store in RSS and it showed up as $49. I had 2 managers look at it. They couldn't give me the $49 price, but they did let me fill out a customer credit form that they will process in about 3 days and determine if they will honor the $49 price. If they do, they will credit the money back to my credit card. If not, I can return them. So I bought 2 drives (plan to do raid), and I will just let them sit on my desk until I hear back from Best Buy. If they decide not to give me the $50 each, then I can just bring them back for a full refund.

We also looked at that $40 rebate. It shows on it that it expired on the 27th... 3 days ago... I'm not sure what the heck is going on, but I hope to get the $50 each back soon.

So as of 8:30pm they still have 3 left I think.

I went by @ 11 A.M. this morning (N. Cali.) Shelf tag $99.99 But End Cap had them on "Clearance" $49.99. Snagged one
came up @ Register for $99.99. CSR went to check came back a few minutes later with the Tag. Sale ended on the Sunday the 28th. This deal's Dead! But YMMV!!! Good Luck. BTW they did price adjust that <U>one</U> for me. I did say "how about two then?" She kind of ignored me, & I was on my lunch hour.... So, I didn't push it. I figured I was ahead of the game if this actually ended on Sunday?

i had to argue with the csr for 30minutes to get them to go down to 49 today. they had it clearly marked 49 in the store so they eventually gave it to me but told the guys right behind me that they wouldnt sell anymore at that price.

so i bought all the ones they had left because they already agreed to sell to me at 49. i got 6 in total... sold 3 of them to the guys behind me in line (to be fair). i only need two but i knew someone here will have wanted one and been screwed like the guys behind me. im willing to sell it for actual price (49.99 + tax) + shipping + like 5 bucks (post office is far away and gas here is 2.29, my truck gets 8mpg). so no profit. i hate being that guy that misses the deal and i know how it feels.

PM if you want it.... first come first serve. i will not ship first since i am not making any money.

Damn, drove all the way out to Best Buy and realized I didn't put any money in my wallet. First time driving alone, though! Just got my drivers lisence. I'm heading out again tommorow.

Where did you hear that the sale ended Sunday? I would think that a clearance item wouldn't really be a sale type item. The guy I talked to at another store said that they were trying to clear them out. It is also strange that their computer was giving different prices when I went to buy mine.

All you would be doing is increasing hard drive read/write performance if you set them up as in a stripe configuration. Should increase your load times, but not necessarily the game speed performance or video graphics.

I stopped at the Security Square location in Baltimore, MD yesterday as I drove home from work. Kinda bummed because they weren't on the shelf, but then decided to look around the area. Found 7 (now 6) on the end cap. Shelf tag clearly marked as $49.99. Went to check out and it rang at $99.99. Another CSR went and found them, came back with shelf tag in hand. Cashier did a price override and rang the drive up again at $49.99. I now have 1 at home awaiting install.

On a side note, tried to use Ghost 6.5 and got an error with NTFS. (WTF?!?!) Decided to use the utility that came with the drive. After about 1.5 hours of copying data, swapped my 80Gb in for the 40GB drive. XP started to boot to the loading screen (horizontal scrolling bar on splash screen) and then system would either blue screen or reboot completely. Scrapped it and now have my 40GB in again. Oh well...gotta play more later, I guess. With 8MB cache, no point in putting the 80GB drive in as a slave to the 40GB if I can avoid it.
