Wow, really good deal on a Seagate 7200.7 ATA with 8MB buffer (only paying a $10 premium when looking at it from the perspective of 50c per gig Maxtor or WD).

80GB: $99.99 - $50 MFR MIR = $49.99 (62.5 cents a gig) (As Lanyap stated, this one is available online here).

160GB: $169.99 - $80 MFR MIR = $89.99 (56 cents a gig. This one is in the flyer, not the PDF)

Maybe a price match can make these even better.

So where is the rebate for this drive? I've looked all over for it and can't find it. Is the rebate ONLY at the B&M store? There is also no $10 IR, I added to the cart and there was none, and it's $109 not $99.

(Also, where are the rebates for ECDC 6? There is only two at the site and they are expired! They were for only a $30 TOTAL off and there is no $30 instant rebate either).

OfficeDepot has the 80gb 7200rpm 8mb Maxtor for ~$55 AR's. It's on Techbargains' home page. If that's better than this Seagate, I may get it instead. Of course the damn rebate link for it is bad.

You guys comparing this to WD or Maxtor deals don't understand what seperates Seagate from the rest, which is total absolute SILENCE. Nothing comes close to Seagate in harddrive silence, even if maxtor claims to use fluid dynamic motors, it is quite noisy when compared to the seagate. You can never ever hear a seagate barracuda IV or up under normal operation (ie. at least 1.5 foot away from closed computer).

Personally I couldn't care less about how loud or quiet a drive is. Reliability and performance take precedence over that. Just IMO though.

I think any major HD brand today is going to be good. Your problems usually come with specific models within a brand's line and not one specific brand. Look at the MTBF rating for some indication of reliability. Personally I've had all brands go bad on me, except Seagate which I never used.

Reliability seems to have much to do with product lines. I've heard of many dead IBM Deathstar 75GXP and 60GXP's and of WD JB drives around 120GB in capacity.

BTW, on Cusa rebates, I do get pretty much all of them back. They may take a while longer, but they go through. New Rochelle is reliable but slow, IMHO. In the last year, I only had one I/O Magic rebate denied (for no reason), an Omax CD-R rebate denied (for no reason; good thing it was a small $7 rebate), and a DVD Rom $25 rebate from Omax (they performed a substitution without giving me the MIR-->IR).

Well, the deal starts on Sunday, so we'll see then. While we're at it, we can also look thru the Cusa PDF to see if there are other deals we like, but I found this one to be the most significant considering that $50 is the lowest I've seen for a non-YMMV 80GB drive, and the fact that it's a Seagate with 8MB cache is a plus

Maybe so.....

They have ECDC 6 CD/DVD for $40 AR. One rebate is an upgrade though so you have to have the manual cover from the retail ECDC previous version (or some other things they listed by Nero, etc). That sounds like a good buy, it's $71 @pricewatch for the retail version. OEM version is as low as $9 (NINE) so I'm not sure what's up with that! If the only difference is a manual, then the hell with the manual.

I already ordered the 80gb Maxtor (ATA133, 7200rpm, 8mb) from OfficeDepot anyway for $55, but I still can't find the rebate for it. Of OD won't give me the rebate ($30) then they can cancel the order.

The rebate is online. Go to officedepot.com, click on the rebate center link on the right, and search up for Maxtor. Some of their rebates take forever to download; once, when I finished loading it and I tried to save it, it turned out to be a 7+MB Bitmap!
