You can never ever hear a seagate barracuda IV or up under normal operation (ie. at least 1.5 foot away from closed computer).

Another factor in Seagate's favor (besides quietness) is temperature.
My Seagate Barracuda 80 GB drive runs at least 10 degrees F cooler than my Maxtor or WD drives.

It would be awesome to raid 2 of these and they would lower the noise level of my system a ton. Is this gonna be available online? I'm guessing its a limit of one rebate too.

why pay $50 when you can pay $55....

just return the maxtor, those things are noisy as hell.....buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

I already ordered the 80gb Maxtor (ATA133, 7200rpm, 8mb) from OfficeDepot anyway for $55, but I still can't find the rebate for it. Of OD won't give me the rebate ($30) then they can cancel the order.

The Maxtor is ATA133 and has better benchmarks. Not really that big of a deal since it's going in my Dad's PC and that's just for email and the net. I was going to get the WD400JB for him, but it was MORE than this Maxtor! At that price though I'm getting the Seagate also.

I have a WD800JB that only runs 68°-70°. I can only go by the HD temp. sensor stuck to the top so that's its case temp. not internal. (It's cool over here and it's mounted right in front of a fan).

Well, there's still no rebates for the Seagate drive @CompUSA and it still shows $109 as the final price. The rebates for ECDC 6 DVD/CD are up.

My "SMART" detection is off, and that executable still worked for me. (Asus P4B533 & WD800JB on Promise Ultra100TX2).

Maybe it's just a matter of CompUSA "refreshing" their On-Line prices.
Who knows ... Let's wait and see what happens.

Hmmm...I see "Print this ad and bring it with you to take advantage of these exclusive offers in-store. Or, purchase at CompUSA.com."

Some items say under them that they are not available online but this one doesn't.

However, CompUSA has been known to make a mistake or two in the past.

Yes, they are indeed VERY prone to screwing up ads, and their website. At any rate, I emailed them earlier about it and if they reply I'll post it here. It's a "PITA" to have to go to the B&M store and fight all that BS.

You folks are slow this morning.

Here is the CUSA online page that shows the $10 instant and links to the $50 rebate. The $50 rebate is a Seagate rebate and not CUSA/New Rochelle. CPG out of Phoenix, AZ is the rebate center handling the rebate which is the same one that normally handles Maxtor rebates. Here is the $50 PDF form.

Best Buy also has this HD on sale this week for $109.99 - $50 MIR = $59.99. MIR goes to CPG at Niagara Falls also. I would be willing to bet that BB B&M drops their price automatically by $10 to PM CUSA if they are near a CUSA B&M.

I don't see that in the pdf flyers from their site. It's supposed to be the same as the flyers. I see a Maxtor 160gb for $99 AR's but no 160gb Seagate for $89. Maxtor link

I'll tell ya what's slow, the CompUSA business site and all its errors. Instant rebates don't work. They are listed, and they can't even subtract them correctly.

While it's not quite as good of a deal, Best Buy has the 120GB Seagate for $79.99 AR. I've just been looking for one for a TIVO upgrade and 160 is more than it can use.

Yeah, I got this drive from BB a couple weeks ago, when it still had the 3 year warranty. Got them to PM to this price!!! Never hurts to try. Great drive so far, very quiet, can't hear a thing from my 400sc.

While baracudas in the past have been realtively slow, these newer 9200.7 Plus drives are a lot better performers. Read this review.

Although they don't review this specific drive, they said it should perform very similarly to the 9200.7 SATA, which received good numbers.

It's kind of strange that CUSA's site has two different links for the same drive, with two different product numbers, yet the same mfg part number:
here
and here
Too bad there is no rebate on the 120GB drive.

One appears to be OEM and other retail if the images are correct. But I don't see how that can account for the big price difference. Hey, like we alluded to earlier, it's CompUSA!
