Yeah, these drives do seem to have somekind of a performance issue with raid 0 configurations. Anyway, the comments made by Seagate tech support about the problem being because the drives are "too fast" is obiously a load of crap and a feeble attempt on their part to paint this in a more favorable light. The reason I say this is because there are other dirves out there from IBM, and Western digital (and perhaps Maxtor as well) that achieve higher transfer rates than these drives and they don't have the same issue. So, obviously this isn't the real cause of the problem.

Anyway, these may be fine drives and this may be a fine deal, but if your interested in a striped raid 0 array you might want to check the forums at storagereview and read about this issue before you buy these drives.

hey guys, i just bought this drive for a new system im building.

Does anyone know if Outpost/Seagate is good with their rebates, cause if i dont get this rebate check back im gonna be screwed.

and also, performance wise, does this stack up with the maxtor ata133 7200rpm 80gig @ newegg for 165$ shipped???

please, just help me feel like i didnt get ripped off

Well I ordered my drive....I just love my Seagate Barracuda IV 60GB drive!!

The thing is so quiet I can not hear it even when I put my head right next to it!!
Where as my WD's and Maxtors make a high pitched whining sound...it drives me nuts

I am trying to build/maintain a quiet pc...and this seems to be the best drive right now for it...
Plus it is fast as heck!

Received mine today. Drive in a brown box. no CD or manual. Oh well. A reasonable price for a quiet drive, i guess.

what do you guys
im thinkin of holding out but this looks real tempting

how is seagates Customer Service and the like if it doesnt work?



and it still is under warranty eventhough its in a brown box right?

yes, 3 yr warranty. if you notice on the rebate, where it asks for serial/part number, it says "Bare Drive". and rebate is a mfg. mir and not a fry's rebate (thank god, not sure how they handle their rebates) so that shouldnt be a problem.

I've got one of these drives on the way. Will I need to download software from Seagate to do a low-level format on the drive? I looked at their site and can't find anything.

I bought one at Fry's last Saturday, installed it Sunday.

I have Windows XP. Just did the regular format under Disk Management. Takes awhile though.

eh, i just got my drive today. brown box, no software, no manual, and the packaging suck, just 3 air filled plastic puffies, but as long as it works I'll be happy..

Oh, I have 2 questions, is all the P/N numbers the same, and where can I find when My warranty expires on my OEM drive?,, Can't find it anywhere..

That's my number too, but I thought the number they were looking for was that other number that's listed with the barcode on the front too, with the serial number next to it on another barcode? I can't figure it out! :Q:Q

I had my new drive up and running for a while. Now when I boot I get the message "...Boot2>." and it doesn't boot. I deleted the partition, recreated it and reformatted and I still get the same error. Does this drive come with any tech support? Does the warranty come form Outpost?
