Hey Sync. You are probably SOL with the BIOS. Unless you have a relatively new machine the chances of even
an updated BIOS recognizing it are slim. You can alwasy buy a bios from MR BIOS. I personally would go for a new
MB and CPU and this should then take care of your problems. Consider the time that you will spend and the fact that
you probably need a new bm/cpu anyway.

Alternatively you can use LINUX and it will not care about the BIOS. You can manipulate the HD yourself. Will take some
reading and work on your part though.

I'm begging now, b/c the old rebate is no longer on Outpost site. If anyone can provide a link to the $50 rebate form, I and others in the forum will be grateful.

You're right. I updated the BIOS and it still doesn't recognize the drive(using 'Auto-detect hard disks'). But if I set the drive definition to 'Auto' then it does work. I'm puzzled by this, but at least it works.

same thing with me i think, in the bios if i try to auto detect it it says "0 gb", but if i just leave it on auto it says 80gb and works fine. it's a nice drive

Argh... It's a link to the 20$ rebate...
Anybody with the 50$ one?
I sent a msg to Outpost a few days ago about this ( i bought it on the 18th) and they are ... well ... rather unresponsive. :-(

So TBC, if your offer still stands, could you pleeeaaase send it to me ?

I'm about to send in my reabate form. It states that the original Outpost.com sales receipt/invoice is required. The only thing I received is labeled as a packing list, although it looks like a sales receipt. What are you guys sending in?

>>I want this hard drive because it's VERY quiet... decible ratings are so much lower than any other 7200 rpm drive.

Ilove this drive. I run two 40s and they are dead silent. I used to suspend my IBMs with rubber to kill the sound and I bolted these babies in with force and they are so quiet I can transfer 20GB to either drive and not hear them at ALL.. I never thought I'd go back to seagate, but here I am.

Got a problem with buying this drive:

I picked up the Seagate from Fry's (B&M) as they advertised ti for 159 - 20 mir. Problem is that the counter person didn't give me a rebate to send in.

My Q is "Can I send in the Outpost.com rebate form?"

whats up guys
im having a problem with my hd

i put it in ok and everything is running fine

randomly sometimes when i turn on the computer, when its goin through the BIOS and reading the primary and secondary IDE channels it will say for the Primary (the seagate): ST3800!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (instead of ST3800) or it will give some uninteillgible letters and #'s

then it will correctly get all the other ide devices then will goto boot the disk drive and say DISK DRIVE FAILURE enter disk and press ENTER

So Im like uhhh wtf
this hard drive better not be broke and i will reset/ turn the computer on and off a few times and it will work fine (using now)

wtf is going on?
