I've been waiting for a good deal on this one. Thanks. It will join my quiet, reliable 80GB Barracuda that I bought a couple years ago.

Ah... you youngins. Seagate is a premier disk maker from the days of old. I have 10K SCSI Seagates that have been spinning 24 hours a day for about the last 7 years on my Suns and SGIs. It's sad that they've had to resort to selling cheap drives at CompUSA. It's like Ferrari competing for Ford Focus customers.

Very true, indeed.

Thanks! I hope the rebate works.

Anyone know if this is B&M, internet only, or both?

I remember after capacity broke 40GB (namely 60GB), horror stories began to surface here and there.

When any brand begins to give 3 years warrenty AGAIN..., you know, they dare, you should dare, too -- I pretty much think something is improved. It just one more clue when making a purcahse.

1st drive was a Seagate. 20MB (Yes, MegaByte) with an Interleve of 4 to 1 (took four spins to read one track). Costs a whopping $379 in 1988. Lasted about 4 years before dying the click of death! :Q

Fastest thing on the block when I bought it!

Ah, the old days!

Oh, and I have this drive and the Seagate 7200.7 120GB 2mb cache version. Not really much difference between the two in "Real World" speed...benchmarks show about 12% gain.....YMMV.

Oh, and it's the quietest drive on the block!

I jumped on this same deal a few weeks back. Just wanted to know if you guys got any confirmation through email that they received your rebate form. I sent mine a week after I purchased it and I haven't received anything yet. I even checked rebatestatus.com and the site tells me that they have nothing from me.

Also, if I were to buy another, would it be possible to get the rebate again if I had already sent for one from the previous deal? Just curious because this drive rocks!

have a 18.4gb u160 scsi running 24/7 and no problemo, been running since my freshman year, 2 years ago. Hopefully this harddrive can go the distance.

Seagate is quality, I'de trust them more than WD these days, just because of the implementation of the 1 year warranty. That just doesn't seem kosher.

When I sent in my rebate form, I believe I just put the product number. Should be something like: ST3120026A. When you're sending in the UPC, just cut out the whole piece so it shows not only the UPC, but the product, serial, and model numbers. Also, I just checked rebatestatus.com. Mine is also in!!

Anyone know if there's any online coupons available for compusa? Wondering if I should order online or drive 45 minutes to pick it up. My store has 37 in stock (cincinnati).

Or is there anyone who would pricematch this? I don't think officemax, staples, circuit city, or best buy sell Seagate. Or do they?

No coupons that I know of...but you can do F@tcash to get a little back that way!

Cusa almost never has coupons. PM probably won't work. Only rtl stores w/ the drive are BB and Cusa according to Seagate. Last time I got a 7200.7, the rebate was valid for CUSA only.

BTW is there a way to order online @ CUSA then pick up in store? That way, you could rack up some F@tc@ash.

bestbuy has it in stock and will price match it with extra 10% off the difference.

But they have the 70$ rebate there too.

So it would be 149.99 - (110%* 20) - 70$ MIR.

It is a 7200 RPM Drive...with 8MB cache. It has a 1 year warranty....(The OEM version, strangely enough, has a 3 year warranty). Very quiet. I can't hear them at all....even in my Dell 400SC and Dimension 4550's. I would almost pick up another....but I really don't need it (yet)!

By this time (year 2003) it's safe to assume pretty much all hot deal drives are 7200rpm unless otherwise stated, and soon enough, we can assume 8mb cache unless stated

I picked one up today; pricematched at Best Buy (but they didn't give me the extra 10% of the difference!), and got it installed. $129.99 plus tax, -$70 rebate. So it was around $69.

Darn! Is this the 7200.7? Looks like it is. I already ordered this drive from Newegg for $99 shipped just last Friday.

I already have one that's been running since June, and I think it's great. It's very quiet. The whine is barely audible, and seek noise is virtually non-existant. It hasn't gotten any louder over the past 4-5 months.

I was planning on putting this new drive in my Tivo, because I want a quiet drive in there.

Maybe it's time to order a third one and finally set up that RAID 1 configuration like I had originally planned when I bought my Asus P4P800 Deluxe.

EDIT: BTW, there's nothing warm about this Seagate at $0.50 per gigabyte. This is HOT! This is currently one of the nicest drives on the market.

After about 15 seconds of deeply reckless thought, I decided to order it.

AND NOW IT SHOWS AS SOLD OUT!

DAMN.

EDIT: I'm going to pick one up when the stores open in the morning. Maybe two. I'll pay cash in seperate transactions (no CC to cross reference) and have one of the rebates sent to my dad's house.
