Seagate Hard Drive Warranty

I have been emailing "Dolly" at Seagate customer service for about 7 months now. I purchased a 250G Seagate drive from Circuit City. When I went online to verify the 5 year warranty, it come up with "component" status, "contact place of purchase". I believe that it think this is an OEM drive. After contacting Seagate, I had to fax copies of my hard drive label, label on the retail box, and store receipt. After getting all that information from me, my status has not changed. I have emailed Dolly once a month ever since. This is the last email she sent:

We would like to inform you that there are warranty discrepancies on Seagate hard drives and for all retail kits the part number on the drive label will differs from the one on the label of the box. We request you to kindly refer to the part number i.e on the label of the box, if you require warranty replacement in future, so that we will be able to assist you further.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused.

So if you don't have your original retail box and have a discrepency like I did then I believe you are screwed. Check warranty here

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I have six 7200.10 and one 7200.9 drives--I switched to buying Seagate almost exclusively since they are the only ones willing to stand behind their drives for five years (which could mean they have great confidence in their drives, OR it could mean they are so terrible that they need to assure the consumers with such a warranty... I'd like to think it's the former!). I've got all of them installed and enclosed except for the two 320GB 7200.10, and both of their warranty status show to expire in August of 2011, which is what it's supposed to be.
