Seagate x15 randomly accessed?

I installed my seagate x15 18gb drive earlier today on an adaptec 29160 controller.. its the OS drive, and i've noticed that every minute or so it clicks like its trying to read from the drive for no apparent reason.. I've had this same problem with other seagate drives as well.. anyone know why it does this? My quantum drives don't do it. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

It's a not a problem, it's a "feature" of the X15's. As I understand it the drive moves the heads every few seconds to cool them.

Thermal recalibration. Most drives do it, you just don't notice/hear it in many.

It is a feature of many high end SCSI drives. What happens is that if a drive is left idle for too long, the heads touching the disc surface will warm up quite a bit. To make the drive much more reliable, most scsi drive will move its head every few minutes if it has been left idle so that the temperature across the platter is much more consistent, instead of creating a 'hot spot' at an area of the platter.

Im running 4 36LPs in a hotswap tower, and I have never heard it.. must be all the fan noise from the dual Athlon system or the redundant PSUs on the hotswap tower.. Ive heard about it, but just never heard it before. You must have a nice quiet system..
