Seamonkey logo revealed

As some people mentioned in mozillazine, the logo actually looks like feather from a blue bird. I actually laughed when someone mentioned a chimp on surfboard for the logo -D

Personally, I like the logo with the exception of the background. The top half dark color makes this suite look 'darker' than before.
But then again, us SeaMonkey/MozillaSuite users are those who turned to and stayed with the dark side >D


On a side note, I actually felt that the logo selection should've involved the community. What I meant was, to have the logo shown for people to see and vote for which one would fit best. But then again, I guess that's over.

CTho9305, if you're reading this and don't mind me asking -- do you know if the submitted logos will be available somewhere or shown to general public to look at?

Interesting, I never even knew this product existed. As for the logo, being a fossil geek, it reminds me of a conodont. Or a ray. Looks pretty nice though.

Personally, I got a kick out of the FIRE-BREATHING DRAGON Mozilla used to have at boot-up.

THAT was a logo.

yeah, that fire dragon would kick anyone else's arses so hard they will land on the moon.
too bad, that logo belongs to mozilla foundation (or so i assume) so it can't be used anymore.

the gecko thing really doesn't have as much kick as the dragon -(

I think a concern was that that would leave all of us (developers) unhappy, and just as much of the community would still be unhappy. We had reasons for keeping it quiet, but I don't remember what they were since it was so long ago that this started . We expect to be flamed a certain amount due to our choice.

The fire-breathing dragon is owned by Netscape .

What was wrong with 1.0 alpha? It was probably beta-quality at worst, since it was what the fifth Mozilla 1.8 beta would have been. Anyway, 1.0 beta should ship soon - we finally got permission from the Mozilla Foundation to check in our last few patches (long story... we basically don't have control over our own code for the branch 1.0 will ship from, and they've been slow to let us make our changes).

(well, I did spell it right in my posting, so i'm only halfway sinned ,p)

Btw, how about the little gecko on early mozilla releases? Is it owned by Netscape as well?

Anyways, I'll check out the links you pointed above when I have the time. Home connection is limited to have to wait until i get back to "work" to do that ,)

Oh, other things:
1. Can the extensions (and themes) for Mozilla 1.7.12 work on SeaMonkey 1.0?
2. Can I have both Mozilla Suite and SeaMonkey installed on the same computer? Will they bite each other out?


Maybe I should really change my mind and actually install it on my work computer tomorrow...
Had the files (previous release before the one with new logo), but didn't want to install it because I was afraid it will mess up my other settings and emails.

I don't recall who owns that, but it doesn't fit "SeaMonkey".

Some extensions might work. Themes are unlikely to work (it shouldn't allow you to install them - we're bumping the internal version string). I know of at least two things that will break for themes, and there are probably more. Hopefully themers will update their themes to work.

Mozilla and SeaMonkey can live next to each other. They use the same profiles though, so if you run them simulatenously you need to create two profiles.
