Well this finally will get me to subscribe to NYT. Now to decide if I want the 5 pound slab-o-news dropped at my door on the weekends or if digital is good enough.

A very basic core principal:

The president is IN DUTY OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE who voted him into office, not vice versa.
"American People" includes all, including these with different opinions and *of course* it includes the press.
This "president" thinks that the American people (incl. the press) owes him, that it's the people's and the press' "duty" to please him (instead of the other way around).
Short, he is bat-shit fucking nuts. What other proof do you need that this guy wants to establish an authoritarian state?

You mean like CNN publishing a story that Nancy Sinatra was angry about Trump using her fathers song, which then caused her to tweet "CNN, why do you lie?". Kind of like that kind of "fake news" outlets? Just face it, CNN and NYT, WAPO, Huffpo etc are fake news. They just publish whatever garbage they can come up with to further an agenda.

...you goddamn rock-sorter: a CNN intern re-tweeted a Nancy Sinatra comment and added her own spin on it. That is not CNN "publishing a story."

Holy shit, you are lead hammer dumb.

They didn't get him fired, lying and covering up got him fired. You realize fake news sites can have true information as well right? Just because the enquirer has stories about "alien bat boy found on mars!" doesn't mean they can't be correct about the latest rumored affair of some celeb. You just have to realize that they often peddle in fake news and treat anything they report with the appropriate boulder of salt.

Yea, they did through accurate reporting.

And lol at the rest of that post.

Go with digital. They also have a program going on where you can sponsor digital student subscriptions. Dropped them some cash today.

I'll take this as acknowledgement that you are unable to tell the difference.

By all means, feel free to articulate the difference. And no, saying "fox lies, cnn just tells the truth!" is not going to cut it.

Same. I've been thinking about supporting them for a while despite the fact that I seem to be able to read it through both my work and personal VPNs

Holy sh*t, you are lead hammer dumb.

Lets see. Just a re-tweet you say?

http://www.foxnews.com/entertainmen...p-spin-on-story-about-her-humorous-tweet.html

Sinatra was not happy with CNN’s story. She tweeted a link to the article and replied, “That's not true. I never said that. Why do you lie, CNN?”

And before you whine about a fox link, here is the actual CNN article that they published:

https://archive.is/V3TVQ

And you have the nerve to call someone else dumb or stupid? Yeesh.

You should. The post you quoted was talking about media OPERATING in Canada. Not a foreign signal that is carried in Canada.

Here's the scoop (from Snopes):

It is true that various sections of CRTC regulations prohibit the broadcasting of “false or misleading news” by radio and television licensees, and that in 2011 the CRTCdeclined to narrow
those regulations to apply only to “news that the licensee knows is false or misleading and that endangers or is likely to endanger the lives, health or safety of the public.”

However, it is not true that such regulations have kept the Fox News Channel from gaining entry into Canada, or that they were invoked to boot Fox News out of that country after the channel was established there. The CRTC regulations apply only to Canadian broadcasters using Canadian airwaves; they do not apply to the Fox News Channel, which is a non-Canadian entity transmitted via satellite and cable, not broadcast over public airwaves.

Fox Chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch was rebuffed in his efforts to establish Fox News Canada in 2003 due to Canadian laws regarding foreign ownership of print and broadcast media, but the CRTC approved an application to bring the Fox News Channel to Canadian digital television line-ups back in November 2004, and that channel is now carried by dozens of different digital providers throughout Canada. (The claimed distinction that Fox News
is only allowed in Canada due to its being classified as an “entertainment” channel rather than as a “news” channel is a meaningless one, as those classifications only apply to Canadian media outlets, and Fox is an American company.)

I think that pretty well covers it.

great. you found an online blurb that sourced only tweets. No comments or anything from the subject. Obviously, that's sloppy as shit--but that's really all you got.

You had to dig up an archive, which is important--that was retracted and then deleted. "Fake news" doesn't do that. How often do your most beloved fake stories remain published on Brietbart or do you get updates about Bat Boy from The Globe?

Again. He was talking about Canadian entities in general. Granted the statement about Fox is incorrect. Everything else he stated is in fact true. The only channel that is like Fox that tried to establish in Canada failed out of existence for multiple violations of standards and, just simply, shitty viewership.

The headline is misleading.

The article has nothing but facts in it.

So is the article fake?

It's pretty much a textbook example of fake news. They took a story, made up their narrative that Nancy was upset about Trump using the song (as the headline clearly states), and then published it. They just got completely called out on it and their lie was exposed when Sinatra herself (who can't stand Trump by the way) tweeted "CNN, why do you lie?".

Their digital subscription reads well unlike the Denver Post which is a mess.

Again, I admitted the headline was misleading. Add any adjective to that you want.

The rest of the article has zero falsehoods in it.

The article was subsequently deleted as zinfamous said.

What news publications do you believe to be true?

You mean after they were busted for lying by Sinatra herself, they deleted the published article. No retraction, no admission that they lied, they just pretended it didn't happen. Fake news.

Speaking of admitting they were wrong, I'll quote you: " ...you goddamn rock-sorter: a CNN intern re-tweeted a Nancy Sinatra comment and added her own spin on it. That is not CNN "publishing a story."

I've provided multiple links showing that it wasn't just "a re-tweet by an intern", it was an actual story published on their web site, which was later exposed as a lie by the very subject of the story. Can you admit that you were wrong?

Oh, so publishing news you know to be fake (the headline is a flat out lie and they knew it) is OK if you later deleted when you get busted for lying? Also, there was no admission that it was a lie, they just deleted the story when they got busted. The headline was also more than "misleading", it was a flat out lie.

Look, is it a big deal? No. Who cares about whether Sinatra is unhappy about Trump using the song. It does, however, clearly provide an example of an organization willing to blatantly lie to push a narrative. That's a fake news organization.

It doesn't mean everything they publish is a lie, but it means you have to take everything they publish with a grain of salt until proven to be true.

Media outlets are not perfect. That goes for all of them. Some are better than others.

But this is a strategy to control information and therefore facts. We use facts in our lives to make decisions everyday that determine if we live or die, how much money to spend or save, apply for jobs.

Society uses facts to move forward. This White house is taking unprecedented steps to control the facts that we all use to live our day to day lives. From education, environment, government (intelligence) and economy.

That is propaganda and manipulation. Are any of us OK with that? Doesn't this rise above the natural team jersey membership and shouting that we all find ourselves in?

It is only going to get worse.

Please. The bigly-est inauguration crowd evar is fake news. 3 million illegal votes is fake news. Mexico paying for the wall & accepting non-Mexican deportees is fake news. The Bowling Green massacre is fake news. We all know where it's coming from & it's not the Media.

I feel like this question was asked by @fskimospy in an earlier thread and it just resulted in perpetual dodging.

I have asked PokerGuy many times what sources he believes are credible, he has always absolutely refused to answer. The reason for that isn't exactly mysterious, haha.
