Search code for website

I have been tasked with adding a search button to our upcoming new website. Anyone know where I could find some open source code for this?

I tried going with the google option, and as of right now they do not like that. Personally I think it would be easier and still be very professional. So if anyone has any thoughts, please let me know...

If you have money, I would highly recommend the Google Mini. It's your own personal Google search appliance which uses the Google algorithm and is completely customizable. I'm using it on my new site I just launched and I'm very impressed with it.

Of course, the base cost is $2,000.00, so it's not something you want for just any site. I wanted a great search function and for me, the price was cheap compared to what it would have taken me in time and effort to do something on my own.

what type of website is it? a bunch of static pages? database driven?

if data is in a database, making a functional search is easy.
if your data is on a bunch of static documents, making a search isn't as easy

we have a google box right now, i'm not really happy with it, nor are a lot of the users
that COULD of course have something to do with our implementation of it though

The pages will be mostly static, but we are planning on implementing some database driven data as well. Basically we would like to do this as inexpensive as possible so the google mini is out...

If you are using ASP.NET, I highly recommend UltimateSearch from Karamasoft.

It actually indexes the rendered HTML from your pages, so it will index information that is being pulled from a DB backend no problem. It is also extremely easy to use, fast & an absolutely wonderful solution. Pretty cheap to.

The last place I worked I added KSearch to their website. Not the best at searching but it was easy to implement and easy to customize (web design was not my job but I got dragged into it often), and 3years later they are still using it.
