I am trying to scope out the alternatives for getting a decent newish S-IPS panel with 1600x1200 resolution.

It looks like the newer S-IPS panels have 700:1 contrast or greater so that is what I am looking at to figure out if it is one of the newer panels. So far I have found:

LG L2000C. Overall very good reviews, but mention of slight color banding.

NEC 2070NX Overall very good review. Excellent color, no banding. No pivot capability:

Sony SDM S205F/S205K. Apparently only the K rotates to portrait. No reviews.

Pelase add to the list or comment if you own one of the above.

Thanks. I guess I should have added that affordability category. I am only looking at around $700 or less. But these would be good for the more well heeled. I knew the upper NEC's were good S-IPS panels, but after looking at prices, the only one of interest was the NEC 2070NX. These prices are Canadian, but you get the idea.

A wall or desk arm might be a good way to add pivot capability to an otherwise-perfect display. If you're super picky about image quality, this might give you a few more options.

According to this link, yes, the NEC 2070nx does support a VESA arm. Basically, there are several standards for the position of the screws, and the NEC 2070nx uses the 100mm x 100mm spec.

The merchant I linked to has an "open box" model for ~$428 which I personally would try if I were in the market for an LCD. But if you do order it, you should be careful and at least make sure that the manufacturer's warranty is intact.

Dell's store also confirms the mounting option, BTW:

One more:
Philips 200P6EB is out now, but the 200P7EB is showing up in the Philips document selector, only a Chinese PDF so far.

You may have seen this but the 200P7EB english manual can be downloaded here: http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/2/200p7eb_93/200p7eb_93_dfu_eng.pdf. A few stores have it in their system now including Neutron which has a Canadian order site and lists the current converted price as CDN $625: http://www.neutroncanada.com/prod.cfm/454090/PHILIPS/200P7EB/27. This is encouraging.

Based on the contrast and other specs it looks like it may have the same S-IPS panel that is in the L2000C and was in the 2007FP. I hope we get reviews early on to see if the Philips model suffers from banding too though I would try it either way if a store with any store with a reasonable return policy carries it.

No, I didn't notice that. I was only looking at the spec sheets, which are still chinese. But it told me enough.

Neutron, is really just USA based mail order, and the prices aren't that good anyway. I want the L2000C or 2007EB to become officially available in Canada. Then I can get my local shop around the corner to get it for me.

I think the LG is on par with other LCDs as far as banding goes but the Dells are exceptionally much worse. Just my guess... If the LG did indeed suffer it you'd think every other LCD using that S-IPS panel would as well.
