Strong enough to penetrate Warren Sapp

and the Tampa defence!

Sears has a Craftsman 16.8 Volt Cordless Drill Combo Kit. It comes with two batteries as well as a "powerful" hand vacuum. There is no description of the vacuum, but the picture shows that it uses the same battery as the drill. Shipping is free after MIR. The drill's model number is 11415 and it has the built-in level, which I find very useful!

I cannot link directly to the item, so you'll have to do a search for "16.8 Volt Cordless Drill Combo"

I got this last week and love it. This drill is nice in that it's very powerful yet has a torque adjustment that will stop the drill after a certain resistance is met. I know this part has a name, but I can't think of it. I replaced a 7.2v Craftsman drill with this beast and love it! The vac is a nice touch, coming in handy. It's the most powerful dustbuster I've ever seen!

Be aware that this drill comes with the slow charger and not the one hour charger that some of the other drills have. If you are doing a big job around the house and your batteries are dead, having to wait for them to charge up is a real pain. I bought this drill for my dad for Christmas the year before last (minus the hand vac but with a flashlight) and we exchanged it for one that had the faster charger. Ended up being the same price because the better one was on sale. Anyway, not to crap, just pointing it out in case some of you might not have known about this. Sears is always running sales on their drills it seems so chances are you may find a similar deal on a drill with the better charger.

I was about to jump all over this... but the 3 - 6 hour recharge time looks like a killer for this...

I first ordered it online with in-store pickup, but even though the site initially showed that my local Sears had it available, I later got an email stating that it was not available at the BM store. So now I'm having it shipped.

With regard to the slow charge time, I hope it won't be an issue for me because I don't go about drilling THAT many holes at one time . . .

One question though: The 16.8V rating seems odd. I've seen many 14.4 and 18 volt drills, but only this one was 16.8--any idea why?

I went to the Sears in Waldorf MD and picked one up. I have two cheap ones with built-in batteries that can't hold a charge. The two battery packs with this one convinced me to buy.

I also looked for the 12-piece screwdriver set posted here (search on "sears"). Regularly 14.99 for under $7. Found a boatload of them on a bottom shelf. Picked up some for cheap presents.

anyone know how long the charge lasts in these batteries? I won't use this drill on a daily basis, but this is cheap enough for me to buy to keep around. Just wondering if I charge the batteries and let them sit in storage until i need to use the drill....

I've been using my 16.8V Sears cordless drill for over two years now. Mine has been dropped, kicked, used and abused and it still works as good as the first day I owned it. Mine has the 1-hour quick charger, which is an essential charger to have if you do a lot of work that might require you to swap the batteries frequenty (e.g. building a deck.)

Mine only included the drill, 2 batteries, quick charger and case for $99.99 (which was on sale at the time.) I like these accessories that they throw into the mix. I'm not sure how good the vacuum will work, though. In my experience, the best vacuum for cleaning the car has been to either use one at a car wash, or use a good wet/dry vacuum at home.

The rumor on the street is that the drills from Sears are made by Ryobi.

HOT!! - This just in ...

If you are a Craftsman Club member, this drill/vacuum combo is only $59.40. SKU = 11415. Being a Craftsman Club member entitles you to an extra 15% off the purchase of this drill combo. I just received my Craftsman Club monthly mailer in the mail today (Friday 1/31) which indicates the price I've posted.

Sears has sold 12, 14.4, 15.6, 16.8, 18, and other drills. I believe that they use standard 1.2V cells in their packs. Add 1.2V for one extra cell and you have the additional voltage.

The trigger is proportional so you push it slowly/lightly you get a slower speed. Plus I believe this thing has a high and a low gear for speed vs torque. I wouldn't worry about stripping screws. This drill doesn't have the torque that some of the higer end drills have, but should suffice for most normal jobs. I own a 14.4V Craftsman and it does everything I ask it to.
anyone know how long the charge lasts in these batteries?
They are decent packs, but it wil depend on how you use them. Generally if I don't use my dril for a month or so I will only have maybe 5 minutes of power left. Good enough for most little jobs. I would charge up the batteries every month or two if they aren't being used. I think they tell you what to do in the manual.

I would encourage anyone that has a Sears B&M near them to go in and see what they have for drills before you buy online. My store is always having a sale on drills. Just my $.02. Either way this is a decent drill for the money.

I believe you're referring to the "clutch" on the drill. I have an earlier version of the drill w/ a flashlight. No prob with it at all.
Very nice price with the club membership. Does anyone know what is the cost of membership?

Being a member of the Craftsman Club is free. After I completed my application and mailed it in, it seems like it took about 3 months before I received my card. Now, I get monthly mailings showing all of the specials that are offered for the club members.

I guess another option would be to head to your Sears store, complete the application at the store and see if they'll give you the club discount immediately. Then, put the application in the mail and wait on your card.

Also, as a Craftsman Club member, you'll get a yearly calendar from Sears with coupons inside that are good for additional savings.
