Found this via froogle last night. The 430W is still available, but the 500W isn't listed.

The 500W would be the better option IIRC because it has the connectors for the new video cards. But I can't wait: the Powmax that came with my case gave up the ghost yesterday after a year's service.

It must be said I've had good luck with the cheapy PSUs: of about 15 or so over the last few years I've only lost two, with a third needing a bit of silicon spray on the fan bearings every month or so. Though I don't fully buy into the PSU hype maybe its time to try something half decent.

I ordered the 430 the other night (Wed), they called me yesterday saying they were out of stock. I payed the diff for the 500W, today I have a msg that that is out of stock.

Both cases they charged my CC prior to the items shipping out. They open at 9:30 AM PST looks like a call is in order.

Tallman45 that is strange because their website still shows the 430 is in stock and available for purchase for $74.16 before shipping charges. The 500 disappeared from their website yesterday A.M. 4-07-05 and was soldout I assume. Looks like you ought to be able to get the 430 you originally ordered. Resellerratings.com's customer assessments of eWiz are glowing. In fact their rating is almost as high as the premier site, Newegg. Is something wrong with this picture? Is eWiz really dependable? Are Resellerratings.com to be trusted? Ah, the joys of ordering online.

They seem to be a pretty small shop with small stock but with close connection to Seasonic.

I would expect they re-order the 500 watts within 3 minutes of you buying them out.

Just give them a call.

They called me today on my order for two and told me they were out. ETA is May 7, but they said they would honor the price. I'm ok with waiting. But I'm dissapointed that they don't have a better handle on their stock situation.

Ordered 4-07 and got my tracking number last nite 4-08. I really hope this works out because eWiz has great prices, and I've been wanting a Seasonic for a long time. If the 500 is good, I'd like to get a 430 for my wife's computer.

Got my S12 500 and boy is this thing super. Readings are 3.3,5.0, and 12.1, cpu and case temps lowered by 3-4 degrees C, shipping was a day early getting here, it was double boxed and surrounded by the puffy bags, very quiet psu. I am totally impressed with Seasonic and eWiz. All the above and great prices, too. I now want a 430 for the wife's computer.

I ordered the 430w last week, it arrived yesterday. Their packing was substandard, but other than that, the psu is awesome! for $82 shipped you really cant go wrong! If I had it to do all over again I may have gotten the 500w instead for future upgradability.

Got mine, too, together with the Zalman VGA fan.

Now, on to the problem of finding the time to put this in within the next 6 months...

The S12 430 is what I bought this morning. After a lot of research and some advice from Anandtech members, I decided it was a really good deal. If you get to it from Pricewatch they offer free FedEx Ground shipping, making it only $78 shipped.

Good deal Rugger29. I hope you enjoy your new S12 430. Seasonic makes a great product and the 3 year guarantee doesn't hurt. Good job of researching on your part. Anandtech contributers are the best.

Why does it say in the decription "Seasonic S12 430W ATX Power Supply For P4 Or Xeon". If it's ATX, it should support any atx board, right? AMD or Intel. I'm just not up to speed on power supplies.

Thanks Owl It was your advice that sealed the deal. I went straight to eWiz and saw there was an $11 shipping charge. But I'm always on the lookout for a better deal, and pricewatch is usually a good bet. Gotta love 3 year warranties

So I couldn't had this with free ship thru pricewatch?! That would've saved me 10 bucks! Oh well. It was still a good deal at $84 after ship. But for $74...oh man...

Sure, the AMD64 have the same connectors as P4s.

I had a Seasonic super silencer 460 on my AMD machine.

Odd: nine arrived yesterday -- in a huge strong box with lots of air bags. ymmv?

Whisper quiet: couldn't hear it over the noise of the cpu fan (But not matter: can't hear that over the roar of the Powermax now restored to my wife's pc). But the cpu temperature does appear to have risen a degree or two -- 60C now -- so maybe it doesn't pull the air through as fast as the Powermax.

I am thinking about just going for the 600 watt, as I think it will hold its own for years to come, but have a fairly ignorant question to ask about psus. If the max rating is 600 watts, does that mean the psu is always sucking 600watts out of the wall? I wouldnt think so, but just want to make sure, cause I would rather not pay more for a psu, and then pay more for the electric bills on top of that.

Thanks

No. In fact a good oversized PSU takes less power than one at the limit of its capacity.

A computer PSU usually has the highest efficiency at about 75% of its maximum capacity. If you drive it at 95% it is less efficient, drawing more watts out of the wall for every watt supplied to components.

However, underusing it also is less efficient, but I don't know how much.

Read the reviews on these Seasonic PSUs on silentpcreview.com. They include all the measurement about this.

My stuff arrived, too. Does that mean I have to take my computer apart? Urgs. I thought placing the PSU near the running computer makes it quiet and efficient.
