My current rig consists of:
Q6600 @ 3.6 Ghz (1.41v vcore)
DFI LT P35 Motherboard
4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 @ 1000Mhz
8800GT
3 SATA 7200rpm HDD's
IDE DVDRW Drive
All powered by a Seasonic S12 650w PSU.
I'm strongly considering upgrading to a 4870x2, would my 1.5 yr old S12 be able to handle it without dying quickly?
Alternatively, I could just upgrade to a strong single GPU like the GTX 280 or 285 and would certainly net some power savings and perhaps a few ATI-driver induced headaches. I game at 1680x1050, so the 4870x2 is slight overkill, but I figured that the extra shader power would come in handy even at that resolution the next time a major GPU-intensive game comes along. Thoughts?
