Seasonic s12 or OCZpowerstream

so for about the same price i can get either 520WOCZ or 600W Seasonic s12.
The seasonic has more raw wattage, and it has a more quiet (noise and taste wise) fan. However, the OCZ has 5year warranty to Seasonics 3year.

how loud is the OCZ fan exactly? How tight is the regulation on the seasonic? I know powerstream has 1-2% regulation.

Why 600W?

For future GPU and Dual Core CPU upgrades. Which will also end up being overclocked. I'd rather shell out the dough for a PSU that will get me through a few machines/upgrades rather than having to upgrade my PSU when i want to upgrade my GPU or CPU.
perhaps 600W is a bit of overkill. maybe a 500w seasonic would do just as well?

500watt would work with SLI and overclocking too.

What are you planning?

I probably won't be doing SLI. however i do plan on doing a future dual core CPU upgrade, possibly even moving to M2's faster and probably more power hungry CPU line. And probably a 4drive raid array for video editing. This will maybe be a year from now. however i will need a new power supply with my next video card upgrade anyway, so...

a good 500 watt psu should still handle what you are proposing just fine

Your question doesn't even make sense. Why do you think 520W will be enough if you buy an OCZ but you'll need 600W if you get a SeaSonic? If anything, the SeaSonic is a better PSU, so you should probably get the 500W SeaSonic and save $35.

There are very few excuses for getting a 600W PSU (if it's a quality one) short of having 7800 SLIs and a dual-core P4 and several hard drives, and you could still probably get by with a 500W.

PSUs are most efficient when they're running at about 65-85% of their capacity. Maybe you don't want the 430W SeaSonic (even though that would probably be enough for you), but you certainly don't need more than a 500W.

The 500W seasonic would do you nicely, but notice the lack of shiny features like modular cables etc. to conter the very quiet fan and high efficency.

But it's most efficent between 33% and 66% decreasing slightly around 80% or so with a very notable decline nearing 100% load.

Of course even at 100% load it's more efficent than most other PSUs are at peak efficency, but we are niggling over details aren't we

you're confusing the powerstream for the modstream.

but yeah i think i'm leaning toward the seasonic. even the powerstream is too loud(visually) for me with the led fan on back.

anyone know at what temp seasonic boasts 80% efficiency at full load?
OCZ claims 63% efficiency at 100% load, but that is at 50C.

I'd go with the seasonic S12-500. But OCZ520 is excellent and many world records have been set on it. It has adjustable rails and that is a huge plus in overclocking. But seasonic S12-500 seems to be a powerhouse:

Stable

Dont get the 430 watt version though.

thats a damn good question. Seasonic is more stable with lower ripple occcurence on both the 3.3v rails and 12v rails then the OCZ, but the OCZ has more options

Seasonic rates their outputs at 50C, if that's what your asking

Real world tests gave the seasonic around 80% at full load. on the SPCR review.

But no PSU will ever be running at 100% load in real life.

Go with the biggest PSU you can afford. There is no bigger problem than starving your 'puter of power.

"Utterly ignorant of the subject matter at hand"... hmmmm...being that I am "utterly" ignorant, could you please enlighten me as to what part of my statement before has so indisputably branded me as "utterly ignorant" by your esteemed self?

I haven't had a good laugh in a long time, so I will be eagerly awaiting your response.
