Seasonic S12 SS-550HT Enough?

I am thinking about upgrading to an i5 or i7 setup. I have looked at several calculators to see if my PSU is sufficient. Some say yes, others say no. Before I go and drop $400-$500 I would like to know if I need another ~$125 for new PSU.

I am thinking of going with an i7 860/P55 setup. I would have 5 sata drives, DVD-RW drive, and an HD4850 graphics card initially. 4 of the HDDs will be removed a few months down the road to a NAS. I will possibly upgrade the 4850 to a 5850 or something similar a few months down the road.

Is the Seasonic S12 enough or should I look at upgrading that as well? Currently, I do not overclock, but would look into it with the i7.

With 41A combined on the 12v rails, you shouldn't have ANY problem with your setup that you are talking about. Unless your going really extreme on your OC'ing, you should be fine with the i7 OC'd too. What case do you have this system in?

It is in an Antec P160 case from about 4 years ago. There is definitely no extreme OC'ing. I have not dabbled in OC'ing in some time. When I did, my system became unstable and my daughter was born. Left no time to look into OC'ing any more.

A Corsair 520 will run a quad core and dual 4850s! I am easily running a Core i7 860 and 4890. My Q6600 @ 3.4ghz was also easily handled by the 520 Corsair, and that 65nm was more of a power hog than the 95 watt Lynnfield.

The Seasonic you pointed out is also good I dont remember if the 2 are actually the same PSU, but the specs look very similar.

You do realize the Corsair HX520/620 is made by Seasonic right?

His PSU should be just fine.

Oh I am so st*pid I didnt' realize he already had the PSU. I thought the OP wanted to buy the Seasonic so I recommended the Corsair because it's $10 cheaper online.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I appreciate the info. I do not need to buy a new PSU, at least not yet. That was going to be another factor in whether I upgrade now or next year. Still trying to decide that anyway.
