Dumbass? When you get out of your car usually you shouldnt have to worrie about some punk hitting you over the head with a skateboard.
>>

You should when you get out with the intention of starting a confrontation with them! And if you didnt, then your a dumbass! Plain and simple!

no, you shouldn't. you should not have to worry about being physically assaulted. plain and simple.

So what the hell did he get out of the car for? To give them a nice lecture on waiting for the "walk" sign before they cross the street?

get real! He wanted to start something!

Quote from article:

drivers should learn from the confrontation and not get out of their cars in cases where the situation can escalate.

Especially if you are the one escalating it. This is pretty simple logic. If you dont want to get your ass beat, or worse, killed, then dont try and start something.

That doesnt mean he deserved what happened, but he certainly should have expected something could have happened.

whether or not he wanted to get in an argument with them is irrelevant. physical assault should never enter the equation. and you can't expect me to believe this guy came out of his car wanting to get in a physical altercation with 3 guys. he probably just wanted to yell at them a little.

In a perfect world, yes, they'd just insult each other a few times, shake hands, and he'd get back in his car.

However,

Andrews honked and was agitated when he got out of his car and starting arguing with one of the skateboarders.

Anyone who gets out of their car to start something with three perfect strangers (skateboarders too!
) has to have been sleeping for the past decade if he realistically thinks that there's not a chance it might turn physical.

Perhaps he just wanted to tell the dumbasses to stop riding their skateboards in the street before he inadvertently ran over them.

Does that justify one of them sneaking up behind him and killing him with their skateboard?

Words and calling someone a dumbass for their stupid actions is one thing, killing someone because the "dissed" you is something quite different.

OT, I hate the term "dissed" but it seemed to fit this one situation.

Did I say the killling was justified?
No, I explicitely said otherwise. You must be missing my point that the guy was a dumbass to get out of his car and start arguing with these punks. No one in their right mind (hopefully!) would do that!

edit: Last post on this subject. I think most people realize you would be pretty stupid to try and start something with perfect strangers in this day and age.

Guy should have just kept driving along. If he hits someone on the street and they're not in a crosswalk, don't the cars have the right of way?

You must have missed my point that it does not matter if he got out of his car and called them every name under the sky. You should not have to expect violence of that sort from a minor altercation.

the whole point of the 'skateboarding is not a crime' sticker is that in some cities, it's illegal to skate on public sidewalks, parking lots, etc etc. not becuase they're skateboarders that commit crimes

you said: You should (have to worry about some punk hitting you over the head with a skateboard) when you get out with the intention of starting a confrontation with them!

that is the line i quoted, and that is the line i was responding to.

Was this guys death justified in any way because he decided to get confrontational? No. It's tragic that it had to happen but it showed a lack of common sense on his part.

Some of the generalizations made about skateboarders in this thread are really stupid. Labeling all skateboarders as criminals is like saying all persons of a certain race are thieves or murderers. I'm 16 and I skate. There are some people that also skateboard and certainly don't give others a good impresion of the sport in general. But these people represent a small minority. They are usually to busy trying to get laid and/or stoned to do much real skating. Unfortunately people like to judge others based on one experience or on an unfortunate stereotype. So before you slap a label on a group, especially if you are saying they are criminals, stop to think about how stupid that is.

Statements like that just show how much our society has become desensitized to the loss of life. When you read about a person dying, does it actually mean anything to you? Have some respect, especially for a man who was needlessly killed. The loss of a person's life isn't something to be taken lightly.

When I read the link it reminded me of the beginning of Dogma where those kids go kill people with their hockey-sticks.

<< I hope they find the kid that did it and fry his ass. >>

I hope they do something to the person too.

It's sad that some people today are so out of control.

I suppose it is much easier to blame the victim for the crime, isn't it?

You know, I really expected her to get raped...after all, she was wearing a low-cut top.

Give me a break.

I live five blocks away from where this happened; though the man would have been much better off (duh) had he not left his car to begin with, responses such as yours make me remember why I have little respect for members such as you.

Lucky, you are either someone who enjoys pulling peoples' strings, or an idiot.

My reply to your thoughts on this thread is

Dumbass shouldn't have posted anything other than "another example of the lack of morality in American youth"

You're speaking if America is a peaceful and perfect society -- not! You can never feel safe anywhere these days. Yes, those kids should fry for what they did but he shouldn't have stepped out of his vehicle regardless! It's called common sense. Would you step out of your car and yell at some fools in South Central, Los Angeles?
