Week 2 Recap ? This is where the fun starts
Week 2 is in the books, and a new leader has emerged. As I predicted last week, RonCarter?s team BaronDaviSter was a force, jumping from third to first after giving Jbah?s poopsters a royal beating. Injuries killed some teams as many superstars showed up for the week in street clothes, sitting on the end of the bench and dooming the managers who drafted them.
And RC didn?t even have the best overall week, statistically speaking. No plagiarism this week? only fresh material and stats. So without further ado?
Featured Weekly breakdown #1:
PreparationH Raymond vs Windy City (DS)
Let me start out by saying that you know you?re getting old when you have to buy PreparationH. You are officially middle aged. Either that or you are under way too much stress. For me, it?s a combination of the two. That?s all I?ll say about that. Hopefully I?ll be changing team names again if this Metamucil stuff works (yuck).
Fortunately, DS proved far less or an irritant to my bunghole this week than my hemorrhoid.
Monday:
PHR ? Sam Cassell and Shareef Aboutto-Tradehim started the week off strong. KG ticked off a ref in the second quarter and gave me an EJCT and not much else. Big Dog Robinson finally started producing.
Windy City ? David Wesley and Matt Freaking Harpring start the week off strong. Harpring, who hasn?t heard that his team sucks yet, got 32 points and 10 boards while shooting .667 from the floor. I can?t even remember when a non-euro white guy did that.
Stark leads after one day.
Tuesday:
PHR ? TJ Ford is the only guy playing that day and he stinks it up against the Lakers. I immediately dump him to FA. Elton Brand joins Wally and Caron Butler on my bench. Of course they don?t actually place him on the IL because the Clippers are cursed and Elgin Baylor sucks, but hopefully the move will work out in 4-6 weeks.
Windy City ? Gary Payton uses Ford?s off night to post strong numbers. Richard Jefferson uses Kmart?s playing time to get 21 pts and 7 boards.
DS takes the lead.
Wed:
PHR ? Everyone plays tonight. Cassell, Garnett, and Glenn Robinson all have outstanding games. Mike Miller even shows up and scores 19. Too bad I left him on the bench.
Windy City ?
Matt Harpring has another good night, scoring 21. Vin B (as he likes to be called in AA meetings) busts out for 20 pts on .643 shooting. He even makes both his free throws.
Stark takes the lead back.
Thurs:
PHR ? Only Tony Delk plays, and he doesn?t do much. I realize he plays for Dallas, not Boston and that there?s no way his stats are going to stay strong for much longer. He?ll be dumped soon.
Windy City ? GP and the mailman use their double overtime win against San Antonio to post some good numbers. 19 boards from Karl? looks like he?s taking his old buddy Rodman?s place in the triangle. Oh, and I forgot to mention until now? this whole week should get and asterisk next to it because **DUNCAN?S NOT PLAYING!! Just think how many points and rebounds he would have scored against Malone?
DS takes the lead anyways.
Fri:
PHR ? Another night where all positions get filled. Lebron, KG, Kurt Thomas, and Glenn Robinson all have good games.
Windy City -
David Wesley and the Hornets kill the Lakers. GP still gets 11 assists but Malone has an off night. Eddie Curry has a great night against the Sixers, scoring 21 while shooting .727, plus 9 boards and a couple of blocks.
Sat:
PHR ? Lebron, Cassell, KG, Juwan Howard, and Mike Miller all have great nights. Caron Butler finally plays a game, but I can?t add him to the active roster for another day. Brand still isn?t on the IL so I have to dump someone? buh-bye Mike James.
Windy City ?
Wesley and Curry have good nights, but without Duncan in the lineup, DS falls behind for good.
Stark takes the lead.
Sun:
PHR ?
Glenn Robinson and Tayshaun Prince combine for 8 points and 11 boards. I hate them both.
Windy City ?
Has a chance to take the win, but Vin and Kittles can?t pull it off.
Final Score: PHR 8, Windy City 5 (including KG?s Ejection bonus point)
Analysis: the rematch is going to be interesting. DS would have won if Duncan and Mashburn had been playing, but I?ll have Brand, Butler and Wally in the lineup. According to my unscientific ?power rankings? spreadsheet, DS and I both finished with a 5.5 rating? tied for 7th overall for the week. I actually beat him if I round to the hundredth. More on that later.
Featured Weekly Breakdown #2: Malibu Knights vs. unshaven
Monday:
Malibu Knights ?
Spreewell finally starts contributing with 24 points on .526 shooting. TMac had a decent night, but not what you?d expect from a first rounder. At least he?s healthy even if his team stinks. Battier and Nesterovic don?t help much when they?re left on the bench! We?ll see if the lost 20 pts, 16 boards, 3 assists, 3 steals and 3 blocks and over 50% shooting cost kev a win?
Unshaven -
AI scores 31 and Rasheed gets 22 as both shoot over 50% from the floor. GINOBILI! (as Barkley calls him) pitches in with 13.
Tuesday:
Malibu Knights -
What was up with ?Mello? 2 points on .077 shooting? Bleh.
Nesterovic had a weak night with 14 pts considering that he had the post all to himself and only Brian Grant defending him.
Unshaven ?
Jermaine O?Neal goes off for 25 points and 20 boards. Tim Thomas plays well against the Lakers and hits all his FTs, while GINOBILI! Scores 15 against Miami.
Wed:
Malibu Knights ?
HOLY CRAP!!
Billups, McGrady, Houston, Peja, Jamison, Latrell and Brad Miller all go off. Carmelo?s matchup with LeBron is a letdown, but who cares when 6 players score over 20 (with two over 30).
Unshaven ?
AI?s 29 and Z?s 23 are no match for Kev?s dominance this night.
Thurs:
Malibu Knights ?
Kev?s team must be worn out from the previous night.
Jamison is inspired by the Raptors hideous brand of basketball to turn in a pathetic 2 pts on .167 shooting with 2 boards and 3 assists. Nesterovic sits on the bench again. What the heck, it?s not like Duncan is out or anything? oh wait. Another 14 pts, 9 boards, 1 assist, 1 steal, 2 blocks, and .538 shooting percentage down the drain.
Unshaven ?
GINOBILI! Kills the Lakers but can?t buy a shot in OT. 33 points, 12 boards, 7 assists, 2 steals and only 1 turnover. Spurs still lose.
Fri:
Malibu Knights ?
Minnesota plays zone on TMac and he only scores 4 points. OUCH! Fortunately for kev, Billups, Houston, Peja, Spree, and Carmelo all have big nights. Pat Garrity comes back but the magic still stink.
Unshaven ?
AI keeps scoring, while Rasheed and Jason Richardson have good nights. Jermaine O?Neal gets a double-double with 6 blocks.
This is going to be close?
Sat:
Malibu Knights -
Houston and Jamison are strong, TMac has another off night. Battier and Garrity post donuts but it doesn?t matter for Garrity since Kev hasn?t taken him off the IL.
Unshaven ?
Sixth man of the month Jalen Rose scores 34 while Tim Thomas and GINOBILI! Both have good games. Rasheed is tired and only gets 11 with 7 boards.
Sunday: Judgment Day
Malibu Knights ?
Carmelo and Brad Miller both score 19 (Miller gets 16 boards) but Peja and Billups have off nights, both scoring less than 15 with poor FG%.
Unshaven ?
AI scores 37 on 50% shooting and Jermaine O?neal gets 23 pts and 10 boards on .526 shooting.
Final Score: 6-6 tie.
Analysis:
I chose this match up for breakdown for a reason. According to my ?power rankings? breakdown, Enjoi had the strongest team this week. Kev was #2. The Knights would have been #1 if he had played Nesterovic those two games (he would have beaten unshaven in FG% and rebounds).
You may ask yourself ?What?s this ?power ranking? crap you keep spouting on about Stark??
And you may ask yourself ?How do I work this??
And you may ask yourself ?Where is that large automobile??
And you may tell yourself ?This is not my beautiful house!?
?This is not my beautiful wife!?
So let me explain, using enjoi and kev as guinea pigs. (Also note that these are stats from a guy who graduated with a liberal arts degree, so don?t expect too much).
Each week I copy all the stats from the week for each manager into and excel spreadsheet. Then I rank the results for each category from 1-10. Here?s how it worked out for Kev:
FGM: 234 (2), FG%: .44 (7), FTM: 126 (2), FT%: .818 (2), 3PTM: 49 (1), PTS: 643 (1), REB: 179 (10), AST: 113 (8), ST: 43(5), BLK: 15 (10), TO: 64 (1) Ejct: 0 (1)
Now I add all the numbers in ( ) together, for kev that would be 52. Divide by # of categories (13) = 4, kev?s ?power ranking.?
For enjoi, it was:
FGM: 217 (4), FG%: .441 (6), FTM: 132 (1), FT%: .772 (4), 3PTM: 42 (4), 3PT%: .408 (3), PTS: 609 (3), REB: 200 (9), AST: 136 (2), ST: 54 (2), BLK: 34 (3), TO: 76 (4), Ejct: 0 (1) /13 = 3.46 power ranking
Full results:
Enjoi 3.46 (1)
Kev 4.00 (2)
RonCarter 4.15 (3)
Storm 5.08 (4)
Neovan 5.31 (5)
Prodigy 5.31 (5)
Stark 5.46 (7)
DS 5.54 (8)
BG 5.92 (9)
Jbah 6.92 (10)
Like I said, these aren?t the most scientifically advanced results, but not bad considering I?ve had one Excel class in my life. Last week the formula predicted RonCarter?s dominance, and Jbah?s weak showing catapulted him into the lead.
To me, this breakdown shows how matchups are everything? you can have great weeks and still come away with a tie. It also shows how one or two players can make a huge difference? take Baron Davis away from RC and he?d be dead meat. Add a healthy Ray Allen and Webber to BaboonGuy and he?s going to be a force to deal with. It?s going to be an interesting year.
Top 10:
1. Baron Davis (by a lot) Yaoster
2. GINOBILI ? unshaven
3. KG ? PHR
4. Jermaine O?Neal ? unshaven
5. Andrei Kirilinikioiii? - KYK-Van Horn Power
6. AI ? unshaven
7. Ron Artest ? alleypoop
8. Tyronn Lue ? YaoSter
9. Michael Redd ? Three Stooges
10. Kerry Kittles ? Windy City
Bottom 10 (not on IL):
1. Kmart (350) - unshaven
2. Elton Brand (340) - PHR
3. Duncan (253) ? Windy City
4. Bobby Jackson (219) ? NYK - VHP
5. Rashard Lewis (215) ? alleypoop
6. Kwame Brown (211) ? Tre
7. Radmanovic (203) ? YaoSter
8. Dampier (201) ? KobeDHITV
9. Jar-icky (199) ? unshaven
10. Cliff Robinson (184) - KobeDHITB
And that, my friends, is your Week 2 RECAP!!
