second hard drive recongnized in device manager but not explorer:

Hi,
I use a second hard drive for games,music, pictures, etc...I formatted the master hard drive that I use for windows 98 and "system type drivers." Now I can't see my second hard drive in "explorer" or "my computer" but I can see it in my "device manager." What can I do to get it recognized again.....

Did you partition the drive properly? Have you simply tried rebooting? Does the drive get detected in the BIOS? Are all jumper settings correct? Is all cabling properly connected? Try these things and come back if all fails.

Its the slave drive thats not being recognized. The master is fine. I think its all well and good in Bios...shouldn't it automatically be recognized in explorer if its in the device manager?

Nope, that should not be the case.

Use fdisk to veryify that the partitions are still intact on the slave drive.

Try to Enable DMA on the second drive. If you can't enable it you have a DMA conflict, normaly it come's from the legecy(sp) support for a sound card. If thats the case just disable the legecy suppport for the sound card. All that does is allow you to play DOS game with sound. Also What OS are you using?

Fixed....ran ibm test and I had a bad sector....damn...lost all my saved games...oh well ..should have backed it up...thanks for the help ....

its a gxp 60...It was working fine before I formated the master......
