Often these codes are "override" codes that could even bypass the time lock and time delay. The clients were not told about this.

On more than a few occasions these codes were given out to store employees during tech support calls to troubleshoot the locks. The employees were told that they were one time codes and that they wouldn't work after the call was over. Not only were they not "one time codes", they were codes that would unlock any safe at any time in the entire chain of stores belonging to the company the employee worked for.

Some of these chains had hundreds of locations.

There is a "financial institution" that has well over a hundred safes that can be opened with the code 222222. This was due to a miscommunication during the initial ordering process. No one has corrected this. Strangely no one has seemed to figure it out either.

crazy!

...what's the most common default override code?

Did you guys know when, say, HardOCP would buy a review system?

I was part of the team that developed a new tracking system. (I was the senior technical documentation lead.)

The original team were 15 people. Twelve of those are now dead.

Not my trade secret but my best friends: He worked at Taco Bell and every weekend they would get wasted late at night. One time a big scary lesbian pissed in the jalepenos. They proceeded to give those jalepenos to the cops and jackass customers. No lie. I knew everyone who worked there and all confirmed it. I will never eat another jalepeno from Taco Bell.

Despite public pleas to the contrary, I really don't want you to come visit me during my office hours, I'd much prefer to surf ATOT. In fact, I'm very likely to give you more credit than you are worthy of to avoid myself the hassle of talking to you about your grade. Hope that doesnt catch up with you on the exams, when I won't be grading.

The VSWR of your cell phone antenna is all messed up when you lay it flat on a table, because its tuned to be held vertical (i.e. next to your head) and proping it up vertically might give you a substantial decibel increase in reception.

Not all government equipment is over priced.

I worked on Fast Attack subs for 10 years, some of the nuts and bolts cost well over $1000 each. The reason is they were used in hull integrity locations, valves etc... They tracked the material used to make the nut or bolt all the way back to where the ore was mined . Also the material for some of these nuts and bolts was quite unique, K-monel or NICU-AL nickel copper aluminum, it had a minimum of 15-20% elongation under shock testing.

This all started with the Subsafe program implemented after the USS Thresher was lost with all hands during sea trials in 1963.

As an intern at a defense contractor I learned that everyone thinks the army, navy, marines and any other uniformed service men are jackasses who don't know ****** about ******.

Also hotels/motels only wash sheets and pillow cases on a daily basis, blankets and bedspreads are washed on a 1-3 month basis.

Sometimes sites like travelocity actually charge you more for the room, cut a smaller check to the hotel and pocket the difference - thus before you book online you might want to double check with the hotel.

It's amazing what you can pawn off on little kids and their "figurative imaginations."

Some of the things hospitals do to make sure they get the maximum reimbursement from Medicare/Medicaid...

Well it's just crazy...

Medicare probably still doesnt cover the cost of the equiptment, much less anyones salary.

Ex. Medicare reimburses $120 for a labor epidural, the cost of the epidural kit is $220. The rest is made up by taxes (this is a country hospital).
(From my days as a drug rep) - Somewhat related to this - Pharmacies are making a fortune from social services. The pharmacies are allowed to get back the AWP (average wholesale price) from the government when they dispense prescriptions. This price is often years behind and many times more than the actual current cost the pharmacies would pay us for drugs. Eg. - We would sell generic Prozac for probably about $30 per 100. The AWP was still set at about $450 at the time, so that is what (potentially) the pharmacies could get back from the government.

From any (inbound) phone job I've had - I probably don't have to tell anyone here, but we'll put you on hold if: you're a dick, we need to smoke a cigarette, someone in the cube next to us wants to show us something funny, or if we want to make fun of you or your silly (mortgage, banking, tech support) problem. Hey, sometimes we slip and forget to come back. Don't worry - every time after we'll just mute when we need to hold, so our hold/off-the-phone time doesn't look bad at the end of the day.

Also - if you have a particularly difficult problem, or we need to go on break, we might accidentally release the call. The really clever of us will say "hello...hello" and then hang up.

From days in grocery - At least wipe off the tops of your soda cans. Otherwise, I hope you like the taste of my cheap shoes.

From working as a "refurbisher" of certain high-end sign making equipment - Most likely all I did was blow it off with a compressor, made sure it printed/plotted and tracked correctly for 6 inches, then slapped a sticker on it and sent it right back out the door.

wow this thread is awesome!

now for my secrets from my old jobs (maybe this is common knowledge):
- mortgage brokers are liars. They will try to put you into the most expensive loan that will give them highest rebate. What? your income is only xxx a month? No problem, it is now three times that. Enjoy your new house! Dont forget to call me again when you HAVE to refinance your house in a year or so (of course they dont tell you this last part).
- mortgage lenders only care that you make your first couple of months (usually 3 months) of payments. Because if you do they are not responsible for that loan anymore.
- Some people that do 100% financing (usually split 80% first, 20% second) are savvy enough that they know they know they only need to pay the first mortgage, since there is really no value on the second mortgage to warrant any action from the mortgage lender. Yes it will ding their credit but good credit people don't do 100% financing in the first place.

GameStop throws away returned PC games and accessory that work fine. I have a $100 AV switch that works perfect but it had a chunk of plastic rolling around in it and was returned, it was marked as ?field destroy? so I grabbed it when we took out the trash. I also have a copy of Sims2 that works from the same night.

The cases that are on the shelf have no games in them, stop stealing them.

Don't eat the hot dogs at Cinemark. At the end of they day the hot dogs are thrown into the fridge and reheated the next day. The brown hot dogs are not spiced, they are at least two weeks old. The buns are taken out of the steamer, put back into the bag and just sit in the back until they are to moldy to sell.

There is no limit on how many times you can press the button that dispenses the popping oil. I once pressed it 6 times, the popcorn was dripping with oil. Half the people that were severed from that popper said it was the best they ever had.

You post online about committing a crime... smooth.

Beats posting online about not having a sense of humor.

The "butter" you put on popcorn is really a flavored oil product.

Some theatres bag and reuse popcorn from previous days

You know that sink you're using? Somebody sh!t in it an hour ago.

Chances are someobdy puked, peed, crapped, bled, or otherwise defiled the seat you occupy with 20% chance it was actually cleaned.

It isn't the theatre's fault the movie is crap. Don't complain to the manager and make his/her already low paying and thankless job more hell than it already is.

You can sneak the dammdest things inside your coat.

Getting head in a crowded theatre isn't a good idea. X2 if it is a kids show.

You know how shows like House, Grey's Anatomy, ER, Scrubs etc like to show how things get screwed up in hospitals? How new interns are flaming retards at times?

Yea, that DOES happen. Worst months to be hospitalized are generally July, August and December. Those are when the fresh out of Med School, brand new interns start rounding. Hospital mortality rates at teaching hospitals usually go up a few ticks during those months.

Example...and this is a kinda mild one. Patient of mine needed 6 units of regular insulin as her blood glucose('blood sugar') was 280mg/dL. My hospital has completely electronic medical records, ordering, charting everything. We page the intern on call. He says ok give me a few minutes. He calls back in 10 minutes and tells the nurse, I cant figure out how to put in a medication order so I'm going to verbally tell you to give 6 units of insulin. Then proceeds to tell her it's perfectly fine.

So then the nurse had to explain over the phone how to put an order in for insulin even though they give the interns cheat sheet books. He said he 'accidently' threw that away cuz he figured he knew enough.

That kinda stuff is scary as hell to me.

FYI- I work in a major teaching hospital. July and August are months I'd just like to take off, cuz you practically spend more time babysitting the new interns then taking care of patients at times

Yeah considering if someone doesn't get the message, that woman could have received 12 units or none at all.
