You do not want to hear any of those trade secrets.

Trust me.

Guy I work with now used to be a pilot for a major airline.. half the stories he tells me make me never want to fly again.

Do you mean stuff like this?

Text

According to 2005 transcripts made public by The Wall Street Journal in September, a British Airways 747 flew its entire 10-hour-plus route from Los Angeles to Manchester, England, even though the pilot knew that one of its four engines had caught fire and burned up 30 seconds after take-off. The pilot surprised the Los Angeles tower by radioing his decision to fly on "as far as we can" (after checking with BA headquarters, which might have been mindful that returning to Los Angeles would have meant dumping $30,000 worth of fuel and possibly incurring $275,000 in European Union fines for the delay). The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration initially proposed a fine for BA but recently closed its investigation. [Wall Street Journal, 9-23-06]

Sweet Jesus! :Q

Yeah, it has 3 more engines but the pilot had no idea what damage was done by the fire.

Most of the stuff your average criminal defense attorney says in state court while defending relatively minor charges is stuff he makes up on the spot and has absolutley nothing to do with anything he learned in law school.

Edit: state court... federal is a different animal.

Medicare probably still doesnt cover the cost of the equiptment, much less anyones salary.

Ex. Medicare reimburses $120 for a labor epidural, the cost of the epidural kit is $220. The rest is made up by taxes (this is a country hospital).

This is true, but I suppose I was making a point towards DRGs. We have DRG specialists to make sure they have the 'proper' diagnosis made...as in...the DRG that brings the hospital the most money. But it's not uncommon for hospitals to do that either.

When I worked for a motherboard manufacturer, it was a well known "secret" that Intel strongarms companies by threatening to withhold your allocation of chipsets. Without the chipsets, you can't make the motherboard. If you wanted to test the market and make an AMD board, you could expect that your shipment of Intel chipsets would "hit a snag".

This was in 1997/1998.

And traditionally, the last show on Friday nite belongs to the staff. The owners let them steal that one so that the owners will get to keep some of the money from the rest of the week.

Many, many companies will not hire someone who has ever worked in a movie theater, because of the (correct) assumption that movie theater employees steal.

Bonus silly secrets:

If someone complains to the projectionist that the film is out of focus, the projectionist will play with the lens, throw it way out of focus, and then bring it back to exactly the same place it was before (it's marked). That will make people think that the focus has been improved, but it hasn't.

Movie previews (trailers) are often printed on different stock than the feature, and the different thickness has a different focus point. Therefore, in a multiplex cinema, the trailers are out of focus, but the feature is fine. With automation, there is no one to hang around and refocus on the film, so the trailers will look like crapola. People complain, the feature starts, people assume that their complaining was what fixed things. People are wrong.

There are very few movie theaters that have an accurate "wide screen" ratio. You want real wide screen, watch it on the DVD.

Ive been working at Osco (CVS now) for almost 2 years and the only real thing I can say is if it's food/drink, and it's CHEAPLY priced it's most likely out-dated or close to. So look at the dates.

Probably not much of a secret, but at blockbuster you can return your movie at any time before 2pm for it to count as on time on the day that its due. If you return your video between 12pm and 2pm, walk it into the store and give it to an employee to check it in.

That may be true today, but about 4 years ago, we returned 3 videos at about 12:05. (although it seems that it was a different time? Whatever; it was 5 minutes late) We took them to the clerk who said, "no problem at all. There won't be a late fee." A month later, blockbuster turned us in to a collection agency for not paying a late fee. I've refused to go back since.

Are you sure you returned it on the right day and watch the person actually check the movie into the system? If its after 12 pm, and it wasn't in a drop box, we sometimes might not cared.

What i said before was true when i worked at a corporate blockbuster about 4 years ago and was also true when my brother worked at the store 5/6 years ago.

Outdates were always at the bottom of the priority rung

I work @ a gelato (ice cream basically) place. The more you bitch or ask for extra stuff (scoop some of that chocolate stuff on top!) the less you get. I pretty much always give customers more then what I'm supposed to, but if you're a dick then you're getting the minimum. Also we claim it's made fresh everyday which it is, but you're not necessarily eating the one made on that day.

My dad works at TVA and would tell me about how much BS Enron was because they always made up excuses about their contracted plants being out of order. After natural gas prices went up TVA pwned Enron to the tune of several hundred million dollars. Of course nowadays this is pretty well known . But kinda funny that everyone knew about it waaay before Enrone was eventually held accountable.
