all M1, M2, M3 etc items are either limited purchases or won through missions. They don't have upkeep, which is great, and are always a wee bit better than the market stuff.
just wait until the string of BS tied to getting the AK M1. that will waste your time.
As for now, there's really nothing tied to rank (private, corporal, lieutenant...), so you could just throw all your energy into the missions that drop loot.
try to unload as much cash as you can into the LE items: currently the baseball bat and the armored shack, or whatever it is. Just remember though, that the amount of those that you can have is tied to the number of sects. the needed number increases by 3 each time you buy one. Go to the forums and copy-paste the names in the "add me" forum into your requests. Many of those may be at the 500 limit, though, so you may not get as many accepts now.
for each sect yoiu have, yoiu need to equip them as you would yourself, one of each item, for them to be of any use in terms of attack defense rating. --each baseball bat you buy is tied to yourself or one sect in terms of attack rating. same with armor, upgrades, pets, etc. hence the need for stacks of buildings to cover upkeep.
and the baseball bat is great--super cheap for the attack, which is currently better than any level 165 market loot (i think only lvl 200 loot is stronger than the bat). with 500 sectants in your party (max), you can hold up to 166 of those LE items. so keep that in mind.
