Ok here's the problem I am running into. I know *PARTS* of this have been answered before but not the whole question.

Currently I have 2 HD's in my system, 1 30gig ATA 100, and 1 4 gig ATA 33. I use a Promise Ultra 100 to control these two HD's and I use my MB (ABIT BX6 R2) IDE Ports to control my TDK CDRW, Cheap CDROM Reader, and ZIP 100 Drive.

I have Win2K installed on the 30 gig, split into two NTFS partitions:

1 20 gig where OS and most APPS are installed (C
1 10 gig where data and other MP3's (D

the 4 gig is used for downloads right now and that's about it...

Well I want to add Win98SE to the extra 4 gig HD just for games since Win2K and my TNT2 don't seem to get along at all.

What would be my course of action to do this without reformatting and reinstalling Win2K?

Hmmm...Here are the rest of my specs on my system anyway...

P3 750 MHZ 100 FSB processor
ABIT BX6 R2 MB
PC133 Crucial CAS 2 256MB
SB Live
ISA Modem
NIC
ULTRA 100 Promise Controller
TDK CDRW and Cheap Reader
Zip
2 Hd's

That about covers it...

Thanks for any help you guys can offer

I'm sick of hearing the *YOU MUST INSTALL 98 FIRST *

if you install 98 on the 4 gig, you'll lose the nt boot loader. to fix it you can boot from the 2k disk (or repair console if you installed it), choose repair console and type fixmbr at the command prompt.

Now it can't be that easy. What is the repair console anyway and where is it located. I can boot from the CDROM so that shouldn't be a problem if I just have to repair the MBR from the CD.

Only thing was I thought the NT boot loader could only multi boot OS's from the same drive. Or am I just making things up now I thought I read it somewhere though.

Thanks...

I don't have time to do it until tonight so I'll see what else comes along

What are the problems with your TNT2U and Win2k? That's an easier solution than working with dual boot.

As I understand from your post, the 4gig is a separate hdd.

Edit your boot.ini with the option to start Windows 98 from the 2nd hdd (4gig).

Make a bootfloppy containing fdisk, format etc and set up the partitions (do not make them active!).
Copy the \Win98 folder from the cd onto the 4gig and install. When a restart is needed, just choose Windows 98 (or whatever you wanna call it in the boot.ini) to continue the installation.

Well basically I can't run any 3d programs at all. Sometimes they work for a minute, sometimes for a few seconds. I have tried various drivers, from 3.68 to the latest NVIDIA reference drivers. It is a Maxi Gamer Xentor 32 TNT2 Ultra made by Guillemot.

I'm frustrated with it and figure 98 may be the solution.

Try out the latest Nvidia drivers, 12.41 from Nvidia.com -- always try out the reference drivers. This could easily fix your problems, so try it out. Win2k on my BX board at home is just great, never had a gaming problem with it.

Already did. Deleted every reference to NV files and reboot with standard VGA. Then installed them and still nothing. 3dMark just freezes, and the same with Black and White and other 3d games. They just freeze and all I can do is power down completely.

Sometimes the graphics actually get tons of lines throughout the textures ( I believe that is what they are called ) Before it crashes.

he can't just install win98 and he can't just edit the boot.ini.

The BOOT PARTITION NEEDS TO BE FAT32 AND ALWAYS DRIVE C

The only way you can bual boot is with a boot manager..like PQMAGIC

If his c drive was fat32, then he could just install win98 and do a repair on win2k...

N4S is correct about the boot partition needing to be FAT.

But check this out!

I haven't tried it yet but if true, no more loading 98 first and no more REPAIRS!
I have to try this.

Hmmm...But in essence I could probably use a utility such as Partition Magic and convert my Boot Partition to Fat32. What do you think?
