To be honest, I'm not sure which free AV is the best. Anyone care to comment on this? I don't even know which ones are free.. AVG and avast!, right?

Well, this isn't very reassuring, cuz here at work, McAfee VirusScan v4.5.1 SP1 with the 4.2.60 scan engine and defs 4.0.4321 (1/29/04 - latest available here) didn't catch ANY of them on DL, unzip and even a manual scan of the unzipped folder didn't detect anything.

PC-cillin is great stuff.. too bad all they sell now is that Internet Security for $50. I won't pay for extra stuff I don't need (anti-spam, firewall, etc.). They'd be very smart to rerelease just standalone anti-virus software for $25 or so.

Maybe I missed something here but doesn't MacAfee an Norton charge about 50 for their standalone AV software then hit you for another 30 or 40 for the extras? Pccillin has always been 50 for the AV software unless you are upgrading in which case it is 25 and they throw in the extras free.
Norton AV 2004 $49.95
Norton Internet security(includes Norton AV) $69.95
mcafee virusscan+internet security software $65.90
