Just wondering, you all purchased your license for Panda Titanium? or is there a free year license like the Platnium?

Norton AntiVirus 2004 Professional - 5 out of 7
Panda AntiVirus 7.0 Platinum - 4 out of 7
TrendMicro HouseCall - 4 out of 7

All up to date as of 4/18/04

I think I'll stick with Norton

While the program may be good for the test involved here, I think the fact that it slows even fast computers down and the fact that it shuts off whenever it wants are two huge no-no's in my book.

This AV program seems to be very highly rated and is only $29. May be worth a try:

I think you're right about it slowing down my machine. The reason I chose it was that since the free version does not offer real-time scanning I thought it wouldn't run all those processes that other AV programs do. It seems like the free Bitdefender installs and even takes resources as if it is running real time scanning without actually doing any real time scanning. Weird.

I wish there was a program that used minimal resources and didn't lurk in the background when realtime scanning is disabled. I don't use realtime scanning because I am very careful about opening attachments or downloads. I launch a manual scan every couple of days.

I just installed Mcafee Virus Scan Enterprise 7.10, it turns out that my school has a site license for this. I ran a full scan with Bitdefender Free Edition and the latest updates just before uninstalling it today. It caught nothing. McAfee on the other hand just caught something called JV/Shinwow.

It also seems to scan really fast compared to Bitdefender. I remember getting a McAfee virus scanner about 6 years ago with my Dell desktop and it sucked so bad that I had to get rid of it. It was causing all sorts of problems (I don't remember the nature of them now), but several people got rid of it and found Norton which worked so much better without causing any problems. Ever since then I always considered McAfee to be a second rate product. So far it seems like it is working pretty well. Terrible interface though - it doesn't seem to have changed since 1998 (or before).

Has anyone used Panda Titanium 2004 with Zone Alarm Pro firewall? I'm very happy with Zone Alarm Pro and using it for all my computers (WIN98, WIN98SE and my new XP system).

I think I'll try Panda -- they have a 30 day money back guarantee and I'm not afraid to use it! LOL ;-)

Thanks for all the great input in this valuable and enlightening thread.
Cheers!

I haven't dumped it. It works just fine, catches virri in emails all the time when I scan my Inbox, and I too have Zone Alarm Pro and they work just fine together. I'm happy.

Tech Support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year*

* Titanium Antivirus 2004 includes one year's services at no additional cost: 24h e-mail and Internet Tech Support, 24h SOS Virus against new viruses and daily updates.

24hour e-mail support? NOT!

I've got the latest update and am having the same issues with Panda. No response from the support staff as well.

Sorry guys My web host had a serious crash, and all data was lost. I had to reupload my web pages, but I didn't have a local copy of the virii.zip file. I suppose this test is over...

If someone who still has the file wants to e-mail me at jokerofdeath@rogers.com, I can host the file for anyone that still wants to dl a copy of it.

I know I am interested in doing some tests.

Thanks,
Jason.

Does anyone still have the virii.zip file please. I see that many of you downloaded, did anyone keep it for future testing?

Well this was an interesting thread. I've always been very careful with my system by installing windows critical updates when needed and I'm connected to the internet through a router (firewall) and I have windows ICF on. I use common sense not to run any files I don't think is safe also. Normally I check this website every once in a while and I'd wonder how this web-based scanner would do against these virii.

I never really liked to install antivirus software on my system because it takes up resources so that's why I use this web-based one. Anyhow, it did detect the hiderun hacktool before.
