Just an update.. I am now at 181. Essentially continued to do the same thing. Took 1-2 week break at 196-198 before dieting again. Still want to get to 170-175 though.

Not bitter, just curious.

You said you essentially did the same things which implies you kept on your usual routine.

I used the word essentially. I spoke with my father and asked his advice as well. He is a health fanatic. He went over my diet and thought that I was eating a very healthy diet and just should make sure not to starve myself, and to eat when hungry... not to go overboard.

I also first waited 1-2 weeks for my body to get used to the lower weight, before dieting heavily again, which I think helped tremendously. Additionally, I was sick for a good week and a half, followed by 2 weeks of heavy stress in my life(stress increases the metabolism I heard?). Both, combined with my general diet, and some cardio/yoga(new), lost the weight for me. I did ease up a bit on the diet, added in some Ezekiel bread and Promise.

My main point was simply that I had gotten down to 181. 30 pounds in 5 days under 2 months.

Thirty pounds in less than eight weeks is too much. You're losing significant amounts of muscle. Also, stress tends to decrease the BMR via increased levels of cortisol. It also increases the likelihood of retaining body fat.

Congratulations on your tremendous weight loss! The health benefits of losing that weight are huge so good for you.

With that being said, I agree with others that you lost a lot of weight too fast. You likely lost a lot of muscle mass along with the fat. There wasn't anything "healthy" about your diet. You were essentially starving yourself. You could have eaten Twinkies all day and lost weight at 800 calories per day (thankfully, you weren't but you get the idea).

Outside of protein, there was no nutritional value in your diet. No veggies, fruits, or sources of good fat. I understand that you have stomach issues regarding fruits and veggies, but have you tried them since eliminating grains from your diet (I assume you have eliminated them since you didn't list any). Grains cause more digestive issues than almost any other food so it's easy to attribute digestive problems to the wrong thing. Just an idea...I have a hard time believing that you can't eat any fruits or veggies.

Also, stop doing so much cardio. You don't need to do an hour of cardio every day. Focus more on weight training to build muscle. More muscle=higher metabolism.

Outside of tomatoes, mushrooms, corn, and broccoli(weird, I know), I absolutely cannot tolerate fruits or vegetable. Once you have been in excruciating pain a few dozen times, the arrogance about eating such things would quickly disappear.

As for muscle, I look absolutely the same muscle wise.

Nutritionally, I was eating much better than any normal diet I have been on.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be arrogant I was suggesting that maybe your issues are coming from other foods. My fiance has dealt with excrutiating stomach pain because of foods...pain that brought her to tears. For a long time, it was attributed to lactose intolerance, bananas, and strawberries. Since completely cutting out grains she no longer has issues with those foods...except bananas which still get to her now and then depending on ripeness.

I've tried every type of diet imaginable, as well as have gone to the top doctors in NYC. It isn't that simple, I can assure you.

You guys are pretty funny. I figured some people might enjoy a positive update. All I've gotten so far are:

-accusations that I didn't listen to the opinions here enough
-accusations that I don't have stomach problems as bad as I do
-people making assumptions about loss of muscle mass
-requests for proof of muscle mass pictures.

You guys are a riot. Believe whatever you want. It will likely include the arrogance and wannabe internet superiority ego strokes that seem to prevail here.

Meanwhile, I've lost 30 pounds and look fantastic. Enjoy your bitterness and ego stroking!

Whatever man, we're just trying to understand. But usually when everyone says the same thing it's for a reason.

Psst. It's physiologically impossible to lose 30 pounds of fat in 5 weeks. Many people lose half fat, half muscle at that rate. You don't notice it because you're getting less bulky, but it's a phenomenon known as getting skinny fat. You'd have to be using certain steroid compounds to maintain muscle mass and lose weight that much fat that fast. I'm not being sarcastic either. You ARE losing muscle. I'm not being arrogant, I'm just trying to save you the period where you feel like you have to gain muscle back after the weight loss.

I never claimed to have lost no muscle. It isn't noticeable, however, and since I have only used a scale to measure, I have no way of knowing for sure, and I really don't care. Sorry about the run-on.

The simple fact is that you're damaging your body. Not in a way that will necessarily affect your lifestyle or duration, but rather the quality of what you're doing. You need to lose weight slower in a healthier way. Eat the veggies/fruit you can, and exercise to compensate. You said there are fruit/veggies you can consume, so do that, and take vitamins to make up as best you can for what you miss. Eat a couple hundred calories below maintenance, after taking exercise into account.

You don't eat enough. It might seem good now, but you'll either crash later or potentially cause damage. What's worse than both of those is that you might actually gain weight because of your regimen.

Weight loss/fitness is long term, not short. Evaluate what you do over a year, not a couple months. After 12 months, you can report back saying it's successful or not, if you choose to stay where you're at. I'm only saying that, in my experience, you'll hit a wall and end up binging, because what you're doing now takes its toll.

We have no interest here other than providing useful information to help you. We gain nothing from it other than the satisfaction of helping. We don't want to be assholes, we're just looking out.

Please take into consideration what we're saying. Please. It'll do you best in the long run.

I take a multivitamin, and have run my diet past my father, who has been a health nut and never overweight in his entire life. I eat larger portions and more frequently now, but not hugely so(portion wise). I have had no binge eating desires. I am also eating more out on occasion and then eating better the following days. I am also better at exercising portion control.

Additionally, I just had a physical 2 weeks ago and ran the diet past my doctor who approved of it. Everything from the physical came out great.
