Ok I've fished all my life, but mostly in stock ponds, or large watersheds. I've moved recently and been fishing in the lake/River. I can't seem to catch jack squat. I've tried every plastic lure that I have been successful with in the past, even other baits, such as minnows, and chicken livers the last few weeks, and haven't caught anything.

I know next to nothing about fishing in the river, except for small ones where I used to live. Any suggestions or advice on River stratagies. Fishing from the bank, as I don't have a boat. I don't really care what I catch, as long as I can catch some fish.

Should I be using more crankbaits?

ThanX in advance.

As at your local baitshop, they should be able to point you in the right direction.

Little Red River that runs into Greers Ferry Lake. It's not the AR river, but it's prolly what you would call a medium sized river. Fishing up from where the river runs into the lake. It was clear, but now is moving faster, and muddy because of the last few days of rain.

Also warm this time of year. Water temp is prolly somewhere around 60-70 degrees.

water is to warm, also to cloudy. In murky fishing water use a black lure. Fish cannot see anything else.

I believe the most important thing is to learn where fish congregate. Look at the upstream part of deep slow parts, look for undercuts, look for places where fish can station themselves and out of the main current, withcover, to ambush prey as they float by. Figure out what kind of fish are in the river, target that fish's preferred diet (ie. smallmouth-crawfish, trout-nymph, largemouth-plastics).

fish will eat worms when conditions are muddy.

Thanks guys, I'm going to try some worms, as almost all fish in the river will eat them carp/bass/brem/cat. I'm hoping to catch some stripers or hybrids when I get outta work @5.

I've always been able to catch fish on plastic worms, small grubs, and spinners, but no such luck in the river the last couple weeks.

if you have stripers in the lake, throw spoons... look for the inlets into large slow pools... they will congregate there and wait for shad to come down.
