I bought this drive yesterday for $135 shipped, and when I looked at it today it had dropped $30!!!! Unless there's something I was REALLY missing in my research, this is a pretty darn good 8X drive. If not take it easy on me, it's my first deal!

i heard cloneCD doesn't work with Yamaha drives, but that was a while ago, i don't know if the firmware has changed by now...

As for CloneCD compatibility, I think it's ok using session-at-once, but check http://www.elby.de/CloneCD/english/ if you know more about it than me.

Even though I got the Plextor 8432 last week, this deal is too good to pass up. I'm sure this can't compare with the Plextor, but $50 is a big difference.

Wow this is really cheap. Yamaha makes nice drives but I heard that they do not make the drives themselves anymore.

FWIW, I've used CloneCD with zero problems on my Yamaha 4x4x16 with firmware rev 1.0j.

I believe none of the Yamaha drives support CloneCD.

Anyways, if you want a good CDRW that supports Clone CD, get the Creative 8432. It is 8X4X32, only has 2mb cache, BUT its a rebandaged Plextor 8432. Buy.com has it for $137, but you could use the $30 off $150 to bring the price down. Also, I think the creative is Retail, whereas the Yamaha is OEM...But the Yamaha has a bigger buffer (4mb compared to the Creative's 2)!

Relf Lauren: Did you notice that a few msgs before yours, someone reported using CloneCD with his Yamaha drive with NO problems? What are you basing your statement on?

Also, why do you think this is an OEM version, instead of retail? I've never seen Yamaha drives in non-retail packaging, and this one includes cables, mounting hardware, and lots of software... sounds retail to me.

Yamaha makes awesome drives, and this is an incredible deal. If you've been holding out on buying a CD burner, this is the time to do it.

I dont know what you guys are talking about when you say yamaha drives dont do clone cd at all. Thats not true, most of them do , with the newest firmware revision. Besides for a plextor, most people I have talked to say yamaha is the best.

What exactly makes some of these high-end drives so much better than others? I've had both an HP and a Yamaha, both burned at the same speed, both never made a coaster, both came with great software. I've been using my HP for a couple years, never a problem. What could a Plextor do that my drive can't? I certainly wouldn't pay extra just to have a drive that someone considered the best.
