Seems like a deal

I've been offered an opportunity to by an "overstock" item from a builder (previous buyer backed out).
I've been thinking about upgrading my fx-55/6800-sli for a while. This machine
will be used for gaming, some modest encoding, and work-related projects
(programming/debugging multi-tier apps). I won't have (much of?) an
opportunity to customize this (read: I probably have to take it pretty much as-is... it's a new build though).
I've dabbled in overclocking a bit and this rig comes a bit overclocked already (might try to push it a little bit).

Here's the parts list:

  • THERMALTAKE - KANDALF WATER COOLED CASE
    GIGABYTE- GA-P35-DQ6
    INTEL - QX6700 QUAD @ 3000 (Step 7)
    EVGA - 8800 ULTRA
    SWIFTECH THREMAL COOLING WATER BLOCK
1600 Watt ULTRA 3X POWER SUPPLY
    2X150 WD RAPTORS -
    160 WD SATA
    1X PHILIPS - 20X DVD-RW
    4Gig MUSHKIN MEMORY (PC8500 D9 CHIPS)
    WINDOWS VISTA - 64 ULTIMATE

All for $2400 (incl shipping). Seems like a pretty decent
deal. Couple of considerations

1) 1600 Watts seems like quite a lot. I won't even be able run
this off my 800 Watt UPS (but I was thinking of putting that
on my home server anyway).

2) How loud will this sucker likely be? The vendor claims not so bad but I'm
skeptical. I've got zero experience with water-cooled systems

3) I know the Qx6700 is a half-generation old. Seems like one of
the Q6600's (G0) would be a better buy.

4) Having said all this, I did a quick price check on NewEgg for
the following: EVGA 8800 Ultra, $G Mushkin D9, Q6600, Vista 64
Ultimate, Gigabyte P35-DQ6, Taga 1100 Watt PSU and it all came
to a hair over 2k (no shipping or tax yet) so this seems like
a pretty good deal.

Thoughts?

This is a pretty good deal, the thermaltake is one of the better cases for built in watercooling but still no where near as good as a seperate watercooling kit (though it should be able to take that qx6700 higher hten listed. THat 1600watt psu is insane (I doubt you will be using much more hten 600 watts at full load iwth that system and even with a second gpu it wouldn't need more the 1kw (that being said I have the 1kw of that psu and its very quite and stable, plus being modular is nice). Swiftech makes good waterblocks (and its good that htey are using a swiftech block instead of the thermaltake but they are probably using the thermaltake radiator and pump. Now the 1600 watt psu lists for around $500 so while you are getting it for less it does raise the price of the system. How comfortable are you with this builder (and do they provide warranty support...)?

Those aren't US dollars, correct?

Yes it is... your point?

I've not lost sight of the fact that it might be too good to be true (if, in fact, that is your point). This is from an ebay seller (who runs a real building business... the ebay channel is secondary). He's got a fine rep and this pricing is not far out of line with respect to his other listings on ebay. Not sure how he sources his components.

1600W PSU is gross overkill - even half would still be overkill. Seems like the guy built if for someone who had no clue but wanted an e-PeePee.
