I'm essentially retail so the clock matters. Other professions, I agree with you.
Well if you are client facing then yeah clock is important.

I worked with a guy that was consistently late five minutes every day. Every day. How is it that somebody can consistently arrive late the same amount of time everyday but not arrive on time everyday?

My nephew told me that at his job they give workers a 5 minute window for lateness. So, if you clock in during that 5 minutes you won't get written up. The same goes for my work, and other businesses like Lowes and Home Depo. Of course, people take advantage of this and are constantly late. I think it's stupid and it's another example that we've become soft as a society. I try to be at least 8-10 minutes early. IMO, being late constantly should be a punishable offense.
Do you guys have a 5 minute window for being late?
Depends on the job but constant tardiness is disrespectful.
I don't officially open until 8:30 but I'm usually here by 7:15. Why? ATOT, of course.

Words to live by.
If you are not first, you are last.

There are people I do that to.I had that same situation at a previous job. We just changed her hours to compensate, that way she was always 10 minutes early, but didn't know it

Good god. I hope you're salary. These concepts are completely foreign to me. It's a completely different work ethic than I practice. I'm not saying one is better or worse than the other. I think (hope) the difference is salary vs hourly. Salary I can see because your employer basically owns your time, and you are compensated for that with higher pay.Words to live by.

But these posts about getting there 30 minutes early so you can check fluids and crap before you even start working are out of your damn minds if you're not salary. Your employer has pulled the wool right over your eyes.
My current 8-5 hourly job tried to pull that shit with us once several years ago, saying we needed to be at our desk ready to work at 7:55. I told them unless they're paying me 25 minutes of overtime every week, I will be there only when I'm getting paid to be there.
