that is correct

I was with them back when they started as x.com Had the debit card and everything. As it is now, I begrudgingly use paypal for all my forum transactions. The debit card makes it very easy to use the funds.

But I too would switch to GCO completely when it's more widely used AND they have a debit card I can get for my account.

i believe it.

also, paypal has a free virtual debit card service now. they give you a disposable card number to use once, so you never give out your real account number. paypal is GREAT, but the fees are HORRIBLE.

Ive been using strictly GCO on ebay for 3 months, best move, EVER.

How do you do that? I mean what do you list as your payment options in your item description? I would think that most eBayers don't have or know what GCO is, how do you get them to use it?

You send them a manual invoice after the auction, I am working on making a end of email that links to my website, it's still in the works.

Processed 75k in the past couple months, saved around $2300 in fees.

prolly losing about $2300 in bids from people who only want to use Paypal for payment.

I would say Google Base is technically superior to eBay. But at this time, it just doesn't have the audience mass at all. I've posted my hard drive for a day now. When I checked just now, so far I've got 7 page views and 0 click. (4 of those page views were mine.) This is not surprising considering that before yesterday, I hadn't even heard of Google Base. And I'm a pretty internet saavy person.

The only way Google can get Google Base going quickly is to incorporate it into the Google search engine somehow. If my item can appear on a Google search results page in some way, even if it's just a link at a corner, it's going to be viewed a lot of times. If Google can do that, there's no way eBay can survive. Until then, Google Base is just a well designed but extremely hidden piece of technology.

It looks great right now, just wait til they start adding on fees at some point in the future.

It's a business, it only makes sense that they do so eventually.

Hopefully it won't be as bad as EB/PP has become, though.

It will be around 2.3%, the standard for processing credit cards.

Feels better that way, anyhow. You sell to someone who wants the product at a lower price than they otherwise might of gotten it for because someone didn't outbid them, and the seller makes the same amount of money.

Did all of you attach a bank account to your Google Checkout account? I really don't feel comfortable doing that. Since I was an early Paypal adopter, I never had to attach a bank account (I think you have to now). Is there any way I can just keep the money on GCO, and then spend it on GCO when I want to?
Thanks OP for telling me about this.

Hmm, so far that's holding me back too, though its not as bad as the ssn...but other than that, this looks like a good replacement to PP for non ebay transactions. What's stopping someone from abusing the system and constantly paying themselves and eventually making money off the 1% cash back some cc's offer? (aside from google imposing the cc fees, and is probably against ToS). Also, since Google doesn't hold money like paypal, if a chargeback is issued, will they suck up the money out of your bank account, whereas Paypal would just leave you with a negative balance?

I am on the same boat. I never provided bank account to paypal and I believe I do not have it either. I hope somebody start a business of providing virtual bank account which can be used with google and other requesters.

Well actually now that i think about it, its more the ssn that bothers me, not bank acct (as pp has my bank acct, but not my ssn). Would they report sales to the IRS?

Do they ask for SSN? What's for? It's completely fine to report to IRS, however they have too many interns who can easily hack database and steal SSNs. I'd stay with paypal and will see in january how much fee for their transactions added.

So you trust PayPal's $7 an hour "help desk" workers more with that information?

Google Base? Hrm... I've been busy but not that busy and I never heard of it before either. Tried a few searches and some of the listings make me a bit nervous. Is there a feedback system? The listing style is a bit too free form for my tastes compared to eBay.

Google Checkout is a fast, convenient checkout process that complements your existing process. Customers who use Checkout can buy from you quickly and securely, using a single username and password ? and you can use Checkout to process their orders and charge their credit or debit cards.

And until 2008, you can process all your Checkout orders for FREE.

This is definitely a nice deal but unfortunately has lots of issues. I installed googlecheckout on our website and the order button is not working with IE. It's working very fine with Firefox but unforunately not many people around are using FF (At least in comparison with IE market share). I first thought that maybe it's from our shopping cart but I tried to place an order on buy.com using GC and got the same issue!!

Any feedbacks?

First I have heard of it. Are the rebels trying to keep Google Base hidden from the eMpire?
