As usual I'm turning to you guys for some advice. We recently purchased a new Maverick to replace my wifes aging Vibe so now it's time to sell the Vibe but I'm not sure what asking price to put on it. I did a nation wide search on sites like Vroom, Carvana, Autotrader, ect but nothing close in options and miles were relevant.

It's just a base model Vibe with 133,000 miles on it. Everything works like the AC, power mirrors, ect but it's the base model even down to the 5-speed manual. Carvana and Vroom offered around $1200 but that seemed a little low even for this market. What do you guys think is a fair price? $2500 OBO? I'm just not sure. I don't want to rip anyone off but I don't want to give it away either.......any suggestions would be appreciated.

Anything that runs reliably, is safe to drive, and not rusted out, is worth more than $1200 right now. Even something with 200K mi and twice that age is worth $1500 or more, and when a Vibe that is so similar to a Toyota Matrix, makes it more valuable than if the equivalent were entirely GM designed/parts.

Yes $2500 is a fair price but in this market, I'd start closer to $3200. You can always go down later if no interest is shown. It also depends on what area you're in, the more urban the more they tend to sell for. Having all records is value added too, as is newer tires.

Aim for the fences and set it at 3500 or something to start.

Vibes are Toyota Matrixes with a crappier AC unit.

My mom's Matrix is 206k miles worn and a gen 1.

Um....I think you should price it appropriately. 3000-4000 based on region

It's a manual so you could probably sell it at a premium as the average buyer of a manual is specifically looking for manuals.
If it were an automatic, it would be competing with a wider variety of models and pricing would be lower.

Pay for a detail and if rust or CEL codes aren't an issue this should command decent price.

Check for ALL manuals across brands on cars.com in your area and compare what you are competing.
For example, if the average 5spd Hyundai accent with 300K on the clock is going for $4000 you can pretty sure that you are going to get more than 4000 for your Vibe.
Just an example and I have no idea what Accents are going for in your area but hopefully you get my point.
Manual transmission Pontiac Vibes and Matrix's are not to far away from the " know what I have" camp as they are well known commodities in car people circles.

That is crazy low. I sold a 03 vibe auto with 200k miles, both passenger side doors had lightly been backed into, and minor roof damage around 9 years ago for $2400. I know 9 years is a long time ago but yours is 6 years newer and in a crazy over priced car market. Mine was a real beater.

My old beater if you are curious

Thanks everyone I really appreciate the feedback. After doing a little bit more research I've decided on an asking price of $4500. If that's to much the market will let me know and in a few weeks if it hasn't sold I will drop the price down.

While the base model isn't exactly going to please "bro's" with the 1.8, what you have there is essentially a manual Corolla wagon.
133K on the clock - > Low miles on an engine (timing chain bonus) that will outlive a lot of members on this forum. By 2009 they sorted out just about everything on that engine and if you put the bare minimum of required maintenance into that thing you could probably expect that engine to run just fine for 400K.

The perspective buyer for this is probably going to know this.
They are also going to know that some sellers might fall for the "It's just an old Pontiac....I'll give you 2K for it and do YOU a favor" and hope you'll bite.
If you advertised it for 4K to 4.5K....and they still called, just keep reminding them that it's a rebadged Toyota.

In 2022, it's a whackjob sellers market.
However, if your Vibe is rust free and in good condition it should be money well spent for someone looking for reliable cheap to maintain transportation.

People interested in the Vibe know exactly what it is. When I was looking for a vehicle on FB Vibe's sold pretty quickly. In general all manual vehicles did take a bit longer to sell though.

came here to say this minus the AC unit (which i didn't know about).

both were made side-by-side in the NUMMI plant in Fremont, CA.

Bingo. Never hurts to start high.
Often helps to start high... decreases # of contacts from the low baller riff raff bein' like "will you meet in the back of an alley, take half price, take that in monthly installments, and let me keep your plates till paid off (till I get around to registering it) ?"

Did you sell it yet?
Given the current market, I think 4500 is actually a fair offer. (like, stealerships are trying to sell ones with bad carfax records and 200K miles for 5-7K.)

^ The key word there is "trying". Listings we see that are over a week (or less) old, are usually priced too high for what it is.

If you don't price far below what a stealership is unsuccessful in offloading, you're going to wait a long time as a private seller. People are funny like that, will sometimes place more (misguided) trust in a used car lot than a private seller, even if it's the same as-is terms and even if the private seller has taken better care of the vehicle, has receipts, etc.

Set a price, be active in lowering the price every week or two. If you get an excessive # of inquiries, raise the price a little unless you are desperate to sell.

Yes we sold it a few days ago. We got $3800 for it which we thought was fair and so did the buyer. Very happy overall considering we first thought $2500 or best offer was what we were going to ask for it. Glad I checked here first and did a little more research.
