Selling Copies of New Yorks - Newsday - What do you think???

I was thinking of auctioning off a few copies of the New York Newsday (9-12 edition) on ebay and donating the money to the redcross and to those families who lost loved ones.

I have heard that ebay was not allowing any auctions associated to the WTC.
I am glad they stopped the crooks out there trying to make a quick $100.00 on a $1.00 paper, but this obviously would not be the case. Since I can only afford to donate a small amount of money, I thought this might be a way for me to contribute...
Anyone have any customer support email addresses of anyone at ebay who can possibly make this happen?

What does everyone think about this?

thanks

You'd be much better off holding a local raffle and then donating the money to a local organization since you happen to live right in NYC.

Talk to a local high school or a large local parish about holding a raffle for the magazines.

that a good idea vi_edit, that way you would not bee seen as someone just trying to profit off of a tragedy. I would not beleive it if someone had an ebay auction and they said they would donate the money. Too many losers on the loose.

There were dickheads on ebay asking far more than $100.00, there were "Buy it Now" features with $200, & $1,000 prices.

You have great intentions, but as was said, trying to sell it online, regardless of what you put in the description about donating the money, will still make it look like you are trying to profit from the situation.

no matter what i would wait a few weeks forthe smoke to clear a little. donating the cash is a good idea, but if you want to keep the cash....wait a few weeks at least if not a few months.

This really agrivates me as well :|

I would have to agree that not many people would believe this was a charity auction. I myself wouldn't trust someone on ebay either.

Do you think it makes a difference if I have 470 feedbacks? (only 1 negative)

I think vi_edit's idea of a raffle would be a good one, however I think it would fetch a much higher price on ebay because of all the traffic. People wouldn't mind spending $10 or $20 bucks knowing it was going to a charity.

I will have to think of something to prove that the money will go to charity. Any ideas?

loosbrew, the money will be donated to a charity... NO INTENTIONS OF PROFFITING OFF THIS TERRIBLE TRAGEDY...

I think I will send out an email to paypal and see if there is anything they could do...

Here's the thing though - with a raffle, you can have hundreds of people dropping minimal amounts of money (one or two dollars) with a chance of winning, instead of 1 person dropping $100. Your ability to earn money could be virtually endless given how big of a popluation that you present it to.

And in response to your comment "

<< People wouldn't mind spending $10 or $20 bucks knowing it was going to a charity >>

", people REALLY don't mind donating $1 or $2 for charity. You have far more people getting involved, and stand to raise a far greater amount of money.

vi_edit,

I like the idea... hmmmm, now where to get started?? Perhaps I could call a local radio station to have the raffle. Since they have people coming in there all day long donating food/clothes/etc... Maybe they wouldn't mind dropping a buck or two...

I will try the high school as well...

thanks
