Selling off the national park system?!

The national park system was created many decades before the Roosevelt administration -- which seems to be a point in history from which the GOP begins its major objections to government -- the New Deal.

Yet, I don't discount the risk of this happening:

Somehow I neither recall nor imagine a GOP voter enthusiastic about wild places unless they can use a gun in them. They probably want to resume mining operations in the Grand Canyon.

I expect Trump to open the national parks to oil drilling, mining, and logging...as well as selling naming rights.
"Come on kids, let's go visit Exxon Yosemite Park, or Amazon Yellowstone Park...or something equally as stupid."
Maybe even open the national parks up to private home ownership. Build a vacation home overlooking Old Faithful or El Capitan.

And when asked about this from millions of MAGAts who voted for Trump they reply: "Yeah, so what?" because defending the fact that they voted for Trump takes precedence over anything that Trump and his fellow billionaires are taking away from them. The problem with national parks is that the lower classes can visit them. It would be like having a golf course where people could come in and sit in lawn chairs. Once you buy your own island you'll want to own a national park surrounded by electric fences. Wilderness is something you should have money to deserve. People will just crap anywhere.

The national parks are the one thing I can unequivocally cite to my international colleagues with a point of pride. Travesty doesn't begin to describe what privatization would be. IMO if you're not an environmentalist after you visit the national parks, there something wrong with you. The natural beauty of this land, and the breadth of its variation, is stunning.

This kind of disrespectful and egotistically short sighted destruction of the natural world is an ancient disease is a natural outcome of the capacity to use language as a means of threat giving power to those without empathy but full of cunning. There are thousands of years of religious doctrine, spiritual practices, philosophies, etc., designed to curb it and yet the disease persists. Language caries with it the capacity to create imagined realities that do not exist but which can evoke profound fear and people have tired every means but the one that will work to inwardly calm themselves.
