Semi O/T Amex BVG changes

I don't have blue but rather the gold card. Just received a mailing about policy changes. Most don't look like a big deal but there seems to be some changes of note.

"you are entitled to one refund request per item during this time frame"

Meaning you can't price match the same thing again if you find it even cheaper somewhere.

"An identical item is defined as an item that is exactly equal and alike in every way. This includes, but is not limited to, the name brand, model number, materials, workmanship and any associated warranty with that item.

"Rebate and coupon offers are not eligible under this program"

(Italics their's, which indicates changes) Changes go into effect May first.

Kind seems like they are shooting themselves in the foot on the coupon thing. People might now just forego the coupons and do the pricematch's costing them more money.

this is what happens when people just keep abusing their BVG. You know as more people keep doing this, they will just keep making it even harder to the point where there is no more BVG. Then what is going to happen? People here will actually have to pay the price of their computer hardware of the original price of that time and cant get anything back 2 months later.

Stop bitching and moaning when they don't let you pricematch your retail hard drive with an ad of an OEM harddrive...Stop bitching and moaning about a pricematch because they said you used a coupon...You know...just stop bitching and moaning.

AnimEva, using coupons is a good thing for Amex. The retailer covers the discount, not them.

I agree that some have abused the BVG, but it is also up to Amex to verify PMs. Amex trys to walk the fine line of keeping the customer happy (who will then pull out THE CARD when buying something) but also protecting itself.

Somehow I don't think they're hurting for profits. Text Quite a nice recovery after having their world HQ lost last year.

Yes they are. As with most everybody else, Amex is losing revenues post-9/11. My friend who's been with the company for 11 years just lost his job, and says another round of layoff is happening this summer, so yes, I think they're hurting for profits.

The move back to the Amex Tower near Ground Zero makes sense since it owns the building, and I suppose it makes good business sense to move back in rather than having to continue leasing pricey temporary office spaces in NJ & CT, and having to pay for employees' commuting costs.

But anyway... I also got the policy changes for the Gold card in the mail. I'm kicking myself for not PMing as often as I should..

I read that to mean that they will not match an after rebate or coupon price.
Not that they will not match something that you bought using a coupon or rebate.

But I could be wrong.

good for amex. some of the things people are posting here are pure and simple fraud.

I have had a blue card since last year, I have used the BVG a grand total of twice, neither time involving any coupons or rebates or anything, just simple ol' cases where I bought some computer stuff I wanted and then a month or two later I saw it 10-20% cheaper (gasp! someone who uses it the way it was intended). Sure, i could find ways to "get" more money, but I've chosen not to.

thanks goodness amex changed their terms in a way that still preserves this ability for me, but prevents the less ethical from destroying a good thing for the rest of us who aren't out to scam them. Bravo Amex. Anyone who feels it cause to b & moan is simply a cad, AFAIAC. Cut up your Blue card, please, you poor abused babies.
