Every time I see a rescue vehicle coming towards me from the opposite way, I pull over. And everytime I do, I see people that dont even flinch. Hell, even half the time I can see people in FRONT of the vehicle that seem like they dont even care. Someone's life could be on the line, get the fvck out of the way.

reminds me of the guy that turned in front of a cop that was doing at least 55. the cop t-boned him and sent the little pickup into the air. it did a 360, landed on the roof, hopped up and landed on its tires facing the road. the cop car was also facing the road and had a totaled front end. the guy was killed instantly, he was in his late 60s, 2 blocks from home.

dude, getting out of the way on a divided highway is retarded.

what drives me nuts is when I'm driving along, minding my own buisness and I come up on an abmulance with lights an sirens going off.... yet... I'm already going faster than him?

I'm not real certain of the law, but when it's coming the opposite way in its own lane of travel, you don't generally have to do anything. It's when it's coming from behind you that you should make way for it. Laws could be different in each municipality or state though as well.

if its coming from the opposite direction, are you not going to get out of its way?

In my town you must pull over, even if its coming from the opposite way. I guess the reason being that it may have to make a sharp U-turn for whatever reason. Also, they have this law because if the fvcker in front of them doesnt get out of the way, they can go in the other lane and go around.

If it has its own lane is are you really in its way?

As I said earlier, I believe that most states have this law because if the fvcker in front of the vehicle doesnt get out of the way, they can go into the other lane to get around.

I'm pretty sure most states say you are to pull over unless it is a divided highway.

I saw an example of this yesterday. I was on a highway exit ramp. Behind me was a Mercedes w/a well dressed woman driving. Behind HER, an ambulance w/lights and siren going. I pulled over, she passed me with the ambulance behind her, and proceeded to block it for 3 blocks before turning onto a side street. What a @#!?!?#

It's pretty much the same as a school bus rule... If there's a median in the road, and you are on the other side, then you don't have to pull over. But if there's no median, then you do. It's all in case the car/ambulance/etc has to move over into the middle of the road to get around something.

I wish they'd just stick cameras in the front of every ambulance and fire truck and any time someone didn't move over they'd jsut get a $250 ticket that was not reducable or able to be thrown out as long as the evidence was on the tape.

Id say there should be a much heftier penalty. Something like a $1000 fine and possible jail time. Someones life could be on the line, its a pretty serious situation to be fvcking around. Much like speeding through construction zones carry very tough penalties (at least in Illinois)

Most of the time no ones life is really on the line. Second most of the time the person going in the oposite direction has no effect on its speed.

If you can show that another car effect the time it takes to get somewhere fine throw a book at them otherwise STFU. Good god the last thing we need is more retard zero-tolerance BS because what might could of happened.

Because there is more than enough room on the major road. Just because someone has sirens on doesn't mean I'll pull to the side of the road like I'm bowing to a king.

If they need the space I'll give it to them (ie smaller roads). But if there is more than enough space who gives a fvck.

Agreed that a car travelling in the opposite direction probably has no effect on arrival times. But how do you determine if it's a life-or-death situation? Just get out of the way for 5 seconds. What difference does it make in your life? Why should an ambulance driver have to prove someone slowed him down? You're point is ridiculous. Common decency ( which unfortunately isn't common) says let an ambulance, fire truck, or police car pass.
