Its Charlie, so take some salt if you can.

So, when is the GK104/GTX680 going to launch? Late last week, Nvidia sent out announcements to a lot of people asking if they could join the company for the launch on March 12th. Since they mentioned the GTX680 by name in the invites, and sites don’t have cards yet, it looks to be about as ‘real’ as recent AMD launches. No pretty pictures of the invite though, it looks like they once again forgot to send SemiAccurate one, but since we published most of the info a month ago, no big deal.S|A

So now its a 680?

Charlie is hit whoring off of AMD's paper launch, announcing Nvidia's paper launch.
Fascinating

At this point, I would prefer a paper launch. Nvidia has done a tremendous job keeping verifiable specs and performance figures from leaking, so paper launching 1-3 weeks ahead of product availability would be great given the the security around GK104.

If GK104 is close to the GTX 580 performance, it will need to be price at or around the new 7870's price of $349. Based on the 7870's review, it is within 5% or so of the 580. $299 would be awesome (no expected) but still awesome! :awe:

I think it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that GK104 will be faster than gtx580.

Finally, as far as availability goes this will be a delayed launch. AMD is formally unveiling the 7800 series today, but it will not go on sale until the 19th, 2 weeks from now. AMD has said that this is due to both CeBIT and the Game Developers Conference; AMD and their partners want to be able to show off the 7800 series to their respective attendees at those events, with both events being far too large to keep the 7800 under wraps.

The reason for paperlaunching doesn't seem to be too bad. And the same might be the reason for nVidia, they want to show their cards at CeBIT and GDC

Riiigghhhhttt, I guess that as anything in this market, I'll believe it when I see it. This is especially true because this is coming from someone who hasn't actually received anything.

I can't wait for 100% sure real information from Nvidia, though!

Doesn't really matter anymore, it will be judged by perf/$ and perf/w.

The market is filled, AMD has cards bottoms up. Where the gk104 slots in, i just hope it offers "greater value" and force a price reduction... but i suspect it won't, it will slot right in and priced accordingly.

Very true, AMD has built its market and now GK104 needs to land in the correct spot. There's still the old comparison with the previous generation that will inevitably be made, though. It's not as relevant as performance/$ ratio, but people who have previous generation cards won't necessarily update based alone on that... they'll want a meaningful upgrade too.

+1:thumbsup:

Nvidia cards are worth more than AMD cards. I don't see any reason why Nvidia would rock the boat either.

How can you say if a yet unreleased card is worth more than AMD's offerings? Heck, we don't even know which AMD card this is going against!

Nah, I meant what I said. Nvidia cards retail for more than AMD cards of similar performance. Additionally, one of the things I noticed while shopping around for a video card a few weeks ago were the prices for both brands, used. Nvidia cards hold their value a lot better than AMD cards. People willingly pay more for them. They are worth more.

Is that why i'm seeing used GTX 580s for 320$ on ebay

Well AMD priced the hd7870 and hd7850 significantly better than every other one of their releases so far, so here is to hoping that is the pricing pressure Nvidia pencil pushers needed to price Kepler aggressively out of the gate.

Guess people jumped ship

You're looking at auctions in progress. Look at Buy It Nows and auctions closing to get a better gauge. Also look at Amazon's Marketplace.

I saw several MSI lightnings on sale for 400$ there as "buy now", which is what I sold mine (x2) for several months ago. I'd imagine a reference card would sell for much less. I don't scour ebay more than once a week though

OBR is calling out semiaccurate again: http://www.obr-hardware.com/2012/03/semiaccurate-is-absolutely-wrong-about.html

Only kind of. I don't get what he is saying there.

OBR said:

Is it just me or did OBR admit to having an actual kepler?
