I would support this, but it will still be inherently shackled by Microsoft's OS licensing fee's. The day Valve buys On-Live (or creates it's own similar service) and supports real-time streaming across any pc-like device (desktop, tablet, powerful smart phones, etc.) along side local play for those with good enough PC's and can just make steam it's own OS will be the day that "PC Gaming" will obsolete console gaming and will start becoming the overriding popular way to game.

I wouldn't call the On-Live kind of media streaming "PC gaming".

I would call it PC gaming, if it's streaming PC games.

Streaming services share almost no strengths and weaknesses that are typically associated with PC gaming. You could say that consoles are specialized personal computers hence any gaming is PC gaming, but that would be missing the point.

I don't disagree with what you are saying, but look back to my original idea of what I think the future of steam is - a combination of real-time streaming AND local play depending on the device the user is on. If the user has a decent PC, then they can play any of their games locally. If they are on a tablet hooked up to an hdtv, then they can stream the same game.

I said it before, and I'll say it again. The GTX470: just like the 5870 that you've already had (or could have had) for six months but hotter, more power hungry, and louder.

Some games like BF3 for example are better off played on the gtx470,then on the 5870 due to its extra vram,If he runs ultra settings at 1080p,even with little aa,it easily uses over 1gb.

I am sure other games as well take advantage of the extra vram.

Haha, good one buddy!

so you say the 285 also had a total system power of 418W??

walk over the reviews, with less efficient drivers the 480 was already 100W above the 280 serie. which is about 75%..

Ow and it might be that the 2xx serie also benifitted from drivers?

Scuse me folks, but didn't we have all of these arguments long ago? Like AT THE TIME it was happening? Why argue about them all over again? Just dumb.

Don't lapse back into that abyss. hehe.

After all, there will be a whole slew of new arguments to be had soon enough.

Good catch. People who use 3DMark11 runs as a measure of peak power consumption haven't a clue how GPU hardware works. That or they're being deliberately misleading.

Yeah I guess that was folly. Moving on.

Still nice to see the 15% overclock netting a power draw loss, good to know if you can properly cool Fermi to won't eat as much power

So Kyle's benching his at Hardforum, and says the GK104 (680) is faster in games than the 7970. He says the 7970 beats the 680 in highly tesselated scenarios - like tessmark and heaven extreme. The 680 wins on all the normal gaming benchmarks, in game runs, and synthetics.

We've known this since January with those leaked benchmarks.

Looking forward to Cayman, err ehm, Kepler.

Dang... Link?

Is it confirmed then that Nvidia will bring two cards faster than the 7970 and another faster than the 7950?

Giving them three of the top four gpus on the market?

Saw that. He says it is going to be released as gtx 680 as well. They must of improved perf/mm2. Considering Tahiti and gk104 are close on die size, I'd like to know how much faster it is outside of heavy tessellation. Mehhh, I want the gk110, by the sounds of this they will be taking their time releasing it and this will be their high end for the here and now.

It doesn't tell enough, need to see reviews. Could be as simple as a 1000core clock and 10% faster, at such similar dies it will not be a slam dunk, especially if Kyle is seeing wins for the 7970.

Not surprised to hear it is being called a 680 though, if they want to price it right, should be $499. $50 cheaper than 7970 and benchmark wins will make it attractive.

Sounds exciting.
1080p monitor , really would need only 1.
A 30 inch -2 in sli for just about everything with great gpu power.
Surround, could use tri-sli
Now only if it launches at 349.00 ? /JK

Lots of people on here thought Nvidia couldn't catch or beat AMD GPU's on performance per mm^2. Lots of people on here also thought GK104 wouldn't be able to keep up with or beat Tahiti. Lots of people on here think Nvidia isn't going to upset the current pricing tier's set by AMD.

I hope lots of people are wrong 3 out of 3 times.
