Lots of people on here thought Nvidia couldn't catch or beat AMD GPU's on performance per mm^2. Lots of people on here also thought GK104 wouldn't be able to keep up with or beat Tahiti. Lots of people on here think Nvidia isn't going to upset the current pricing tier's set by AMD.

I hope lots of people are wrong 3 out of 3 times.
A lot of people don't treat the info we have now as the gospel. Might want to wait until cards are actually reviewed before we all start declaring the above 3 as true.

Only the foolish consumer would root for one company to dominate the other. Competition benefits consumers.

That said, I don't think GK104 can beat a 7970 when both are overclocked. Stock vs. stock is another matter, given the huge headroom AMD did not use.

Perf/mm^2 is irrelevant to me, but perf/watt I hope they both keep improving on.

There are plenty of those around here.

Most of them are also children that don't understand how the industry works also.

Anyone that gets emotionally attached to a piece of computer hardware clearly has issues lol.

I do also but with women something that can actually love you back.

And trust me I love computers and the hardware as much as the next guy but not to the point where I make an ass of myself in the forums, and defending these companies like they gave birth to me lol.

Back on topic i'm very interested to see how this plays out. Based on all the rumors and what i've seen so far we may actually have a close fight at the top again.

However unless a game comes out that I have to play and cannot get good fps with my current card I will probably skip this gen also.

And look to do a major overhaul for haswell and whatever is out in 2013.

Not surprised to hear it is being called a 680 though, if they want to price it right, should be $499. $50 cheaper than 7970 and benchmark wins will make it attractive.

My guess: $459
(for Tahiti XT slayer)

Free Kepler for everyone!

No, not really... This is still the GF104 replacement, even if Nvidia is going to gouge us on it.

What interests me is if these leaks were correct, then big K is going to be a monster with 2 more clusters of units... 23xx shader cores... That makes the rumored 8970 (if this plays out where GK104 is faster than the 7970) seem like folly.

Would you say the same about cars?

Nobody would. There is a reason there are movies/ songs written about cars, but last time I checked not about video cards. But IMOP that bench racing is much like discussing hardware and o/c'ing.

This is pretty bad news for midrange buyers, considering the midrange competition just moved into a new price bracket, unless anyone expects a 300 buck GTX 680. These cards are going to depreciate heavily overtime though unless price fixing is in.

Doesn't mean they won't have a 670 which is a harvested die to go against the 7950. Still not expecting they will be thinking of my wallet when they price these things.

I still don't think Nvidia is going to upset the pricing brackets. There's no reason for them to do it... then again I'm not an analyst so

I mean AMD just set prices pretty high. That's good for both AMD and Nvidia.

if it mirrors 570 pricing it still doesnt hit the 200-300 sweet spot unless the 680 is very generously priced (relative to the performance of a $570 7970).

Agreed with this.

I don't considering a car the same.

While I have plenty of friends that you can say are in love with their cars. You won't see any of them in car forum fighting with people they don't know. They would you know rather be out driving and doing what they love to do. And some of them when they buy a car they may keep it for 30 years. Its a far bigger investment than a PC.

When was the last time you picked up a Date with your videocard?

I wonder what availability will be? Being that yields were lower than expected.

It will be interested to see if there is any non-reference cards, or if any of the IHV's will be cut out from supply? As in, who will be hard launching with cards, and not just announcing.
