There will always be a demand for electricity, but the main reason why energy consumption is flat is due to the economy. And this still doesn't change the fact that energy prices are high. Without clean coal fired plants energy costs will sky rocket and in this economy people can't afford that.

China has a shit load of coal fired plants and burns some four billion tons of coal a year. Why is climate change a U.S issue?

Yes, clean coal fired plants. Guess which plants are being shut down? Hint: it's the opposite of clean.

You're a mental midget. Why is it either we all do something or we all do nothing? Shouldn't we be a leader in this front instead of pointing our fingers at China and say "they're doing it too."

So your saying coal fired power plants can't be made clean??? Is that your logic? Because they are making current coal fired power plants clean. ROFL!

Shouldn't the biggest polluters be held to a higher standard? We have some of the strictest EPA rules around! The EPA has used their shenanigans to stop a guy in WY from building a pond on his land, they went and stole a car from a woman saying it created too much pollution. The EPA is getting too big for their britches. They are getting bored and have nothing better to do because all of their regulations that stifle the industry have already been voted on. Now they are searching for more BS regulations. Hell! They are so bored they're surfing for porn on the company computer and issuing memos not to take a dump in the hallway. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/epa-poop-hallway

Really? Read post #150.

The one where you attributed it to the economy with nothing to back up the claim? :hmm:

If we're going to be making guesses, I'm thinking it has more to do with our electrical devices becoming more energy efficient.

The plants closing lack emissions controls for heavy metals and other pollutants as they are many decades old. Retrofitting them is prohibitively expensive since they are inefficient to begin with, have major components that are at or past expected like life, and can't compete cost wise with converted/replacement plants using NG. The demise of these particular facilities has been a long time coming.

You're full of shit! The EPA has hamered coal and Obozo said your bills WILL go up! People's way of life have changed due to this fuck headed administration and their war on coal. Green energy WILL raise your electric bill. We are at an energy crises and Obozo has the BALLS to fuck with coal? Really? A proven fuel? NG is going strong but nooooo, can't have that either. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-R-tabdMhE

Cap and trade can suck it!

Cap and trade is a 100% Republican strategy, straight out of your proudest knob-schlobbing conservative think tank.

again, you know nothing about coal and the energy sector. You keep showing that. It's hilarious.

The crazies really hate market based incentives for some reason.

He's actually right. Our demand for electricity was steadily climbing till 2008, and we all know what happened in 2008. You have to think of all the devices more and more people are using like smartphones, I-pads, laptops, and also more and more electrical cars.

Even if you accept the premise should we be building power generation we don't need?

Wow! You libtard idiots don't know the meaning of respect .

Edit- Did some reading and found out saluting isn't required, but became the norm after the great, great, GREAT! Reagan years.

I don't care if it's Bush or Obama, it's disrespect to give a half ass salute to the men and woman that serve this country. If your gonna half ass it don't do it at all.

Still doesn't change the fact that Obozo is a complete fuck up.

So say Conservatives, meanwhile calling female coalition forces "boobs on the ground" and say female fighter pilots "can't park their airplanes."

The great recession was the first dip in our carbon footprint in history

Tim Jackson mentions it in his TED talk also, I thought it was well known that was the one and only drop in industrial human history?

Anyone else find it ironic that this thread is about being disrespectful of others while at the same time the OP has resorted to name calling and personal insults?

OP you're not the one to talk about respect with your bastardizations of the President's name.

Whether you like it or not doing so disrespects the Office of the President.

If you must just refer to him as Obama

Personally I don't like much of what President Bush did during his tenure but I often refer to him by his formal title or simply use his last name.

I don't recall recently making fun of Bush's name out of disrespect but if I did mea culpa maxima. I may have done it early on but now I don't believe it's a good thing to do and it contributes to a general dipshit atmosphere in politics.

If you're going to create a threat about respect don't become a hypocrite within the first few posts of that thread.

more on topic

Presidents perhaps should be given a crash course in military customs and courtesies so they can avoid causing people to gnash and rage over their gaffes rather than things that really need attention.

I'm notr disrespecting the military and when ever I see a person in the military I shake their hand and thank them for their service.

The President has been and always will have a target on his back. You Liberals can't say you never gave the shaft to Bush!

Damn hypocrite's!
