Sempron 2600 vs Athlon XP 2400+

I'm thinking of renting either an XP 2400+ (thoroughbred core) or Sempron 2600+ server for a gaming/web-hosting server. However, I'm not too sure which one performs better out of the two. The Sempron server is exactly the same price as the 2400+ server. So I just need to decide based on which CPU performs better. Thanks in advance!

462 Semprons are TBreds with a native 166 fsb are they not? If you even up the clocks and fsb they ought to have equal performance.

I have no idea.. that's why I'm asking. I have no knowledge whatsoever on Semprons..

Socket A Sempron 2600+ , 1.83 GHZ, 256k L2, 166 fsb. AXP 2400+ is a 2.0Ghz/256/133 cpu. I doubt the faster fsb of the Sempron will make up for the clock speed difference. Watch out as there is a Sempron 2600+ 754 floating around as well.

Edit: assuming everything remains at stock. If both were overclocked to the same clock and fsb, performance ought to be equal. Too much confusion with all these "xxxx+" ratings all over the place.

So I guess the 2400+ is faster? Both servers are only equipped with 512 MB of ddr 266 ram anyway

That's my guess. If the fsb of the Sempron is 166 and the ram is run at 133 via a divider, that is a performance no-no to run AXPs asynch. Which ought to make the 2400+ faster yet in comparison at stock.

Thanks. I guess I'll take the 2400+, I can't OC the chip in the server anyway.. the server is in another state so I can't really tweak anything on it hardware-wise.

higher fsb is not always faster.. let's look at duron applebred 133fsb vs athlon 100fsb 256k cache. still slower right? if they are equally clocked.
You can take a duron at 200FSB ddr 400 vs athlon 100fsb ddr200 and it be about the same. The cache makes all the difference in the world

They both have 256k L2 cache.

From the reviews I read, Sempron 2800+ is about the same to AthlonXP 2400+ or 2600+
