Fool me once... blah blah. Hammer time. Even these negotiations, I would have given them till Fri. to agree to the old power sharing agreement, if not pushed through a party line agreement that gave the Dems a majority on every committee. Let them continue to play hard ball when they have no ball to play with.

Bring back caning?

For traitors, for criminals getting Americans killed? Sure. Repugs act like only the history they approve of matters. OK. Time for a trip back to 1856 for you clowns. Hell let's bring back tar and feathers while we're at it. They don't seem to care about laws or decency much, time to try something else?

A bit of both...offer the carrot first...if they don't accept that, hit them right between the fucking eyes with a 4 lb single jack.

- This is wisdom right here.

Line up two bills: A dem wishlist bill, and a negotiated compromise bill. Republicans dig in on the compromise bill, pass the wishlist one. Make obstructionism more painful than cooperation.

Like I tell my kids: You can do your chores and get back to playing after 10 minutes, or you can take a 10 minute timeout then do your chores anyway... your choice.

Surely, the threshold for appointing justices to the highest court in the land for life should be higher than passing legislation that can be repealed at any time.

I don't know which party tore down the 60% majority vote requirement - but this was a stupid move. Damn framers didn't consider it necessary to enshrine any such standard in the Constitution.

No framer envisioned a filibuster, that was a tool that was added later.

If the framers saw what Congress has turned into they would be sorely disappointed.

Disappointed? More like mortified! And the Senate, which they envisioned as a great equalizer for serious debate compared to the house. Fvkcing A.
Senate R's are already complaining that Biden isn't reaching out enough to them - two days after his inauguration - damn whiny bitches. They couldn't shut up for just a week or two, what the hell.

I was for an olive branch approach, but they already burned that sucker. At least there's some semi-sane Rs like Romney, at least he had the decency to say he wanted to see the bill before making a judgement. If we just had 49 more like him my blood pressure would go down. Obviously they aren't going to accept everything Biden wants - but keep a freaking open mind and negotiate.

// geez, I need a vacation from this shit.

Funny how the narrative is always D's need to reach out to R's, but never vice versa. Where was the R reach out to D's in 2017 ? Oh wait, "it was fuck your feelings, losers."

They already made the Senate a minoritarian institution. 18% of the population elects 52% of the Senators. Filibuster basically gives senators representing 10% of the population veto power over what the other 90% want.

It won't happen. Biden seems excited at the prospect of bending over backwards to appease the GoP. And there is no agreement to be had with the GoP that doesn't involve giving them the better end of the deal, so we can probably expect conservative policies to dominate under Democrat control.

Why am I not surprised . Guy is spineless as a jellyfish.
Wouldn't call him spineless. He's an opportunist. He in the minority was able to block Obama judges. Reid changed from super majority to simple majority to counter. So Moscow Mitch just took advantage when he was in the power to do so to also change simple majority for SCOTUS. And he was within his legal right to block nomination hearing in 2016. But snake like to change the reason in 2020.

Absolutely shouldn't give into this demand. If there is no threat of ending the filibuster it will be used to stop literally everything from passing. Just like Obama after Kennedy died.

I don't really want the filibuster to completely go away, but it either needs to be changed back to you have to get up there and yak non-stop or there should be a limit on how often it can be used.

Then again, not like Mitch even respects the filibuster, when it was his turn he just called everything he wanted a reconciliation bill.
Well that’s why Mitch loves the filibuster - the only thing he cares about is appointing judges and cutting taxes on rich people and those are already not subject to the filibuster. The only thing the filibuster stops is democratic priorities.

What has Biden done to appease the GOP, specifically? Nothing as far as I can tell.

No matter what they end up doing there is no benefit to be gained by declaring right out of the gate that you refuse to compromise or whatever.

Yes, what besides conservative judges and tax cuts can 50 GOP senators actually agree on? Essentially nothing.

Fuck the GOP. Remember what we went through these past years? It's great Biden is a return to normalcy, but we need a leader that will swing the hammer. We have 2 years to set shit straight, nothing is guaranteed after that. I don't want another 4/6 years of fucking Trump again or an idiot like him. I want a leader that will set this shit straight, not let it slide. If it gets by without any recourse, it will only get worse.

Both!! Gotta be firm about the issues that really matter, and we're seeing that Repugs are allergic to environmental, social justice and equity, help for the struggling reforms and forward looking policy. So, you can't be afraid to trigger them, you just have to be insistent that we need progressive legislation. Of course, olive branch is great, come on over, join the fight, join the party, "there are things to realize." Time has come today! If you're just going to represent for the oligarchs, well, to Hell with you.

Impeachment si, clemency no. And throw the mo book at the invaders of the Capitol. We have to make an example of those people. Every one of them should rue the day they went through the busted out barriers, charged up the Capitol steps, busted the windows and doors, desecrated the house of democracy and looked to kidnap/kill legislators.

Dig: If it's one or the other, HAMMER FOR SURE.

Oh, me, me, me (hand raised)! Not funding departments like the SEC that they don't like.
