Maybe Putin had Johnson poisoned with Plutonium-210 as a favor to Dubya.

Latest update:

Sen. Tim Johnson, D-South Dakota, was hospitalized Wednesday after he suffered stroke-like symptoms in his Washington office, his staff said.

Johnson, who turns 60 on December 28, was taken to George Washington University Hospital by ambulance about 11:30 a.m., sources in his office said.

A statement issued by Johnson's office said he was suffering from a "possible stroke." But a spokeswoman later said that tests showed Johnson had suffered neither a stroke nor a heart attack, although it was not clear what had happened. (Listen to Johnson's difficulty speaking during a WNAX radio interview [MP3, 749 kb] -- :38)

Julianne Fisher, a spokeswoman for Johnson, told CNN he was still undergoing tests and will stay hospitalized overnight, but she would not characterize his condition.

"We're taking one day at a time," Fisher said, "saying a lot of prayers and waiting until morning."

Staff members said that Johnson was conscious when he was taken to the hospital.

If he's okay, Dubya won't be able to spend all the political capital he earned from the Senator getting sick.

I hope he's ok, too. I'd heard a rumor that if the Senate went 50 50, that Olympia Snow might move to the democrats. Hopeefully that's correct.

It should be illegal for lawmakers to change party while in office.

Youre voted in on one party/platform and then switch to another?

Thats fraud. Once you are up for re-election you can do what you want.

Senators can still vote for whatever the hell they want. Its irrelevant as to which party they actually identify themselves with.

And that's my point, you vote for a representative, not so someone from the party you voted for gets to be chair of ways and means.

Even if incapacitated, he could remain in office
If a President with the intellect of a grapefruit can serve, why not a Senator in a persistent vegetative state?

Wonder if Republicans would hold an Emergency session to prevent the Dems from pulling the plug?

No, they'll have Frist on the senate floor reviewing the video tape and saying,

"Clearly, he has no brain function. He is legally dead and ready to be replaced."

This is an excellent point. Lots of senators hardly ever show up to vote anyway, how would this be any different ?

Well, it's a Democrat, so obviously such an action would be a "disgrace to America and everything it stands for" and no doubt "against the wishes of what the American citizens really want"

Word has it that he is speaking and is expected to be fine. More to come...

Wow, good thing your last thread was closed. Care to revise your statement on this not being a significant event? I would think anyone who has brain surgery would consider that a big deal.

Have you consulted with Dr Frist or is this your own prognosis?

Since when do you need to be a doctor to know that brain surgery is a big deal? Is that why the man is listed in critical condition? Anyone with a brain would agree that brain surgery is a big deal.

Here's a ballpark of what's going on.

AVM

Although people hear 'brain surgery' and think the sky is falling, treating an easily accessed AVM has a high success rate given modern techniques.

From a medical perspective, YES . . . this was significant. From a political standpoint, probably not. Despite his prior cancer, he's an otherwise healthy individual that received prompt treatment after an intracerebral hemorrhage.
Adm. John Eisold, attending physician of the U.S. Capitol, told CNN that Johnson had "an intracerebral bleed caused by a congenital arteriovenous malformation. He underwent successful surgery to evacuate the blood and stabilize the malformation."

"It is premature to determine whether further surgery will be required or to assess any long term prognosis," Eisold said.
In essence, the only way for GOPies to regain control would be for the SD governor to make up his own rules of incapacitation. I doubt that would happen. So as long as Johnson is somewhat conscious and doesn't resign . . . Dems have Congress.

I really hope he comes out of this ok but right now I'm LMAO at the Dems. They are on the news talking about former senators who were incapacitated early in their terms, never spent a day in Washington and were allowed to keep their seats. Tim Russert was specifically citing a senator from SD... A Republican senator no less... He had a stroke, never cast a single vote and didn't spend a day in the senate for over four years. He was allowed to finish his term. He also mentioned a senator from CA who couldn't talk after his stroke. He pointed to his eye to indicate a "yes" vote.

See? It doesn't mater if he's brain dead. Precident!

Who was that senator form SD?? I seem to have forgotten that, unless it happened long ago??

Anyway, what I find funny is the Republicans salivatating over the possiblity of picking up a "free" seat in the Senate. Politics at it's finest!!
