Sending direct messages

Hi!
I was just wondering how I could send a direct message to a user. When I click on Inbox in the top right corner of the forum and try to "Start a new conversation" I get:
You do not have permission to view this page or perform this action. Thanks for your responses in advance!

You need to have 25 posts to be able to send private messages/start conversations.

Thanks for your reply! Does it also apply to reacting to posts (up/down voting)?
