Some people want boosted bass, Sennheiser's are not for them. For everybody else they are a top choice.

This. My Sennhiesers are perfect for my kind of listening, which is not bass heavy. They handle the lows I throw at them, but I know their limits.

Yeah, I learned that pretty quickly when my cheap walmart skull candy's had more bass response.

Preach on, Mike.
Enhanced bass is so common that many people think any pair that doesn't must be cheap and poor quality.

Thanks for the heads up. I have a similiar pair (CX300s) and like them a lot for earbuds. For $16.99, grabbed a set of these.

When I went to Target and saw these sales, I got so excited I bought some buds and shipped my pants.

I agree. I think if you want serious bass you need to go with on-ear models and be ready to spend much bigger dollars. Serious bass on the cheap has always sounded very bad to my ears.

I am quite happy with the bass in my S4's. You can do good bass and descent mid/high with <$100 IEMs.

Are you referring to the Klipsch image s4? I'm looking for a fuller sounding IEM, but I haven't been able to find any. The cheap (on sale) Sennheiser's I bought a couple of months ago left a lot to be desired in the frequency response category (even on paper, my skull candy model had better specs for the same price, not on sale), so I'm hesitant to purchase any sub $100 models from this company.

Oh, and I don't want this post to be portrayed as me crapping on these phones, I don't have them. I had bought the much cheaper CX150's (I think I got them for $15), which had great reviews and lots who liked the bass response...but it wasn't the sound I was looking for. So please don't take this as me saying Sennheisers are bad, I just need more full sound personally. My CX150's sound crystal clear, just not full enough for me if that makes any sense. Then again, they are bargain bin, so I get what I pay for.

Well the S4's are almost down to the $50 mark now, so I am hoping there are better newer IEMs to be had closer to the $100 mark. I haven't looked at new IEMs since mine are still in great shape.

As I mentioned this in an earlier thread, my 2nd gen apple iPod came with stock IEM's that sounded surprisingly amazing at all frequencies. The best I've ever heard, no distortion even at high volumes. They were quite a bit bigger (and less comfortable, since they filled your whole ear canal) than most IEM's you can buy now though. I really miss those headphones though, I loved them.

I bought a 1st gen nano a few years later and the stock buds on those weren't as good. I know Apple was receiving criticism for people possibly getting hearing damage around that time (and they added software warnings and a maximum volume control lock), so maybe the earlier buds were what sparked the change in the response of their stock headphones and these new safety features.

Certainly a good thing, I'm sure I didn't do my ears any favors listening to loud to music in my early years.
