One last comment and I am out of here. I read comments on net that these headphones needed to "wear in" so I listened to two operas today while working. If they improved I can't tell it. I had purchased them to listen to music on upcoming flights to and from Vienna. To anyone who considers themselves an audiophile, these phones are totally unsatisfactory. The unnatural bass emphasis gives the feel of distant thunder. Might be just the thing to listen to the old recording of Tchaikovsky's 1812 overture with the cannon at West Point.

I have had these headsets for three weeks today. Contrary to reports on net, they do not improve with use. They still sound like some teenagers boombox on a city bus to me. Can't imagine a reputable manufacturer like Sennheiser marketing something this bad.

I don't like cloth earpads... my Gamecom777's are nice but I think I'm going to go for leather next.

Any suggestions?

Sennheiser is a "you get what you pay for" type of company IMO. Every product I've purchased under $100 from Sennheiser seems to lack the quality of their products over $100 (280s, 555s). I think I picked my HD280's for roughly 100$; well worth the extra cash.

OMG this thread that i started so long ago is for one... still not dead...

and TWO: People are still crapping all over it!

If you don't have anything to say about 439 just don't post derogatory stuff.

Why are you people thread crapping

They are MSRP 130 something
and now they are 80$$$

You audiophile people really just amaze me. why are you trying to turn my hot deal thread into a freakin can war????????

PS... go back to head-fi.org !!!!

This thread is about 439's for $80. NOT about suggestions for other headphones. NOT about the differences in products at different price points. Not about how these compare to other headphones. We have a category for those discussions called Audio/Video & Home Theater. Please use it.

Yup I also tried the 428's and the 439 are a whole leage above them and majorly more comfortable too. The 428's were painful in a relativley short time.

I got these Hd439 refurbs from VMInnovations for $45.xx with a 5% coupon found after liking them on FB.

They look new and come with both cables. Super happy with these after buying about 5 sets of cheaper cans: HD201 (comfy), HD428 (painful), some JVC's (painful).

The 439's remind me of the HD580's I had years ago but couldn't drive properly.

I'm using a HiFimeDIY Sabre Tiny USB DAC (ES9023+PCM2706) to drive them directly.

They also have an easy mod (removing middle tape covering whole behind the driver) which raises them to yet another level.

Great buy, don't waste your time on lesser models is my advice
